Truthfully, I think the Shen Rework is terrible. (Rant with possible fixes)

Shen quite literally does the same thing he did before but Riot unnecessarily put a leash on him in the form of his spirit sword. Many of you out there will see what I mean when you get your hands on him when the update hits live but that leash doesn't feel good at all.

This blade being grasped so tightly by his Q and W makes Shen's new kit feel completely unnatural. Shen no longer feels like a Champion with 4 abilities but more like a champion with 2 abilities and a sword with 2 as well. He's basically Kindred down wrong.

I really do believe they should scrap the spirit sword and work on his Q and W more, they just don't roll off with Shen very well since they aren't even him.

Leaving the realm of gameplay for a movement check these out.

Something I thought was really cool about the rework was that it essentially used Raphael Perroni's art as then VU Shen look just with darker colors.

Back to the post I just thought that was pretty cool

If I were to give an ideas I'd convert his Q back to a Vorpal Talon state but instead of it being a single target free heal blade, it'd be a linear skill shot similar to Yasuo's Q. The New Vorpal Talon wouldn't be straight forward with it's damage. When an enemy is stuck the follow up damamge done by Shen and/or his allies (just spit balling here) would heal him for a portion of the damage done to the target but with a twist. Like I said the damage wouldn't apply normally. All of the health Shen gains from Vorpal Talon upon it's reactivation would turn into damage of the enemy champion recently struck.

What could of been done with his W is something truly amazing. Riot could of made it a pure synergy ability. Imagine a Sion W, you activate it and you spawn a shield. After a short time you can become a walking grenade at the cost of that shield. This would work the same way, on it's own just without the explosion of damage. Alone, it would be a normal shield that takes a moment to charge up. In the time it takes the charge up, when Shen casts an ability his W would be modified.

With Vorpal Talon the shield would instead take all of the damage with it's second activation while adding on it's own health as damage allowing Shen to keep the health while putting out some pain. With Shadow Dash the dash would leave a trail from the point of where Shen's W was cast that Shen and allies could use as a MS boost. Typically it's hard to follow up a tank on their engage if you're immobile or just can't waste your mobility. This would help those slow immobile champions get into a fight faster. Lastly with Stand United, Shen would cast an AOE shield on his teammates within the shields radius. With the main target being the only member of the team to receive the full shield bonus of Stand United.

If Riot still wishes for him to have dodge chance or tons of shields then his passive could accommodate that desire. These are just ideas to make it so Shen's Q and W don't feel like otherworldly abilities that don't line up with his kit. Shen's PBE Q and W just don't feel right. I remember another person pointing out that his Spirit Blade seems like a concept best saved for Irelia's future rework but for Shen it feels extremely out of place.

I know for sure Riot won't take to kindly to someone insulting their vision of a champion, pure example is how they handled Mordekaiser. I guess I'd have to transform into the next Malicious Metal in order to ensure the safety of one my most beloved champions. I even stopped playing Shen out of fear of getting too attached to his old kit and the rework changes plaguing me forever. Did the same with Poppy and Taric and have been doing the same for over a year now with Warwick. Still no word on his rework.

But this Is different, instead of his abilities being changed for the better, they've just been changed for the sake.

Most likely because Riot needs a champion type to feel a certain gap, which I understand but don't want forced it onto Shen. Please release a new champion to take it up instead of killing the promise of the old. His current Q and W aren't great but they are atleast Shen.

I think the opposite. I love the rework. Pre rework he was so boring. Throw a Q, taunt and shield yourself and just beat to death reapplying as CDs Come up. Shen is meant to be a sort of vanguard for his allies, a sturdy bulwark. Before, he had really only his taunt and his ult. Now, he has his W and I love the team utility it gives.

Also, thematically this rework makes more sense. If Zed gets to manipulate shadows, it seems fitting that Shen gets to manipulate a more benevolent art portrayed through that beautiful spirit sword. I like that his kit has some added complexity instead of just the usual "I have four abilities that I click and do stuff." This will reward players who can effectively reposition and utilize the sword such as those that play Azir or Zed or Orianna are rewarded for their positioning of abilities.

Don't discount reworks because they're different. That's unavoidable. Otherwise, you simply have a buff or nerf. Taric, poppy, Warwick all have (had) old kits and were very uninteractive for both the enemy and yourself. I'd love a LoL where Warwick isn't a champ that jumps on you and basically right clicks. Or a Taric that is a ball of stats. Or an old poppy that just right clicks on an enemy and can't be stopped for a good chunk of time. Now we have a poppy that has active counter play and actively interacts with various mechanics, I.e dash prevention, peel, ranged slows.

You're like the only person who seems happy with it.

I'm interested in it. But a lot of people dislike it.

As I said it doesn't feel like Shen. Riot needs to make his Q and W not bound by an anchor. It's only purpose is to slow Shen down.

To be fair it doesn't matter if a champion is boring it matters if they feel and play correctly and this doesn't play like Shen. Shen isn't held back by himself, which is what the blade does. Shen's previous Q and W were there to give him the two signatures of a tank. Sustain and defense, not to give him crazy power or allow him to make big plays. Also as I said in the post Shen quite literally does everything he did before but differently, he still has powerful Auto,s and sturdy defense, the only difference is that you might have to wait for them both now besides the cooldown.

That's just it, if anything Shen shouldn't be a mirror of Zed who is flat out darkness. He's the driving force of balance, the physical form of peace. Shen isn't meant to be a benevolent force, he was born and raised to be the cruel cold and calculating judge of the universe, not having any ties which would sway his opposition. Remember, Shen and Zed saw each others as brothers, Shen now seeks to judge Zed for his crimes, not to kill him for the death of his father.

The difference between with Azir and Zed is that they have a small window to use their abilities. This small window demands action and creativity. Unlike Orianna, Shen doesn't have full control over his Sword, his options are, "come here and turn on". Orianna at certain points has the same affect on her ball with the small window so you feel good when you use it, Shen just has his abilities just there waiting to be called to him. There isn't a reset range there isn't a small window to use them it's just click the ability to get it's affect.

Nothing about that seems inherently fun to play. Having two of your abilities not only going against everything you are but just being come here and turn on.

I'm not discounting it because it's different I'm trying to help change it because it's wrong. Another thing which is weird is that you basically just said you don't want those champions to be who they are. Warwick's ID is to be sonic with his attacks. Slow to his power but once he gets them it's a flurry of attacks. Taric was meant to be a rolling gem of magical aura to boot his teammates, the only difference between his rework being so drastically different then his current form is because Sona already does what he can do but better so he needs drastic changes. You also just described the current Poppy with the first sentence and then went on to describe Gnar. With her Ult, W and E there is quite literally nothing you can do at times. If anything it's worst because the old Poppy you could atleast run from. This one grabs you by your furry tail and pulls you back to her.

You wouldn't think those little hands hand such a grip until you felt your spine being pulled out thought your tail bone.

I read somewhere that it would be. That could just be a rumor tho.
