AP Jungle Itemization Alternatives
Recently I have seen a lot of chatter on the boards, some saying that they enjoy new runic because it helps mages, others saying they dislike it because it nerfs assassins. One comment that I read said we should create an AP jungle item for every niche that way no one is left out. My thoughts were the exact opposite. The main issue is the stats being placed on the items other than ability power. Not everyone needs Mana, CDR, MS, Sheen Procs, etc. So rather than force people into purchasing stats they wont use, why dont we focus on the one stat that everyone wants from
: Ability Power.
It is worth noting that
is roughly 90% gold efficient without counting the non-combat passives from
. The current iteration of Runic is only 60% gold efficient without the echo passive, meaning you effectively gain 785 more gold worth of stats from Warrior then Runic.
Using this as a baseline, I see two possible alternatives to the Runic on PBE:
1: Increase the amount of ability power so that the item is more gold efficient, while removing the niche stats that dont work for everyone. If we were to make an AP item that solely gave AP it would look something like

+ 340. With the same 90% efficiency of warrior, this results in an item that gives 108 AP with 0 other stats. Being toned down to 80 AP, it would be 66% gold efficient which is something I think any AP jungler could live with relative to current runic. Even at the mere 60% gold efficiency of live to make "Power Space" for echo, it would be just over 70 AP, a stat that everyone can use and be pleased with purchasing.
2: Greatly decrease the cost of the item while providing minimal raw stats to accelerate build paths that allow for the diversity that cannot come from a single item. One iteration that I thought might be nice looks something like

+ 300. At 66% gold efficiency this would yield an AP stat of 65 for 2150 gold. This would allow junglers to spend money on stats that matter later in their build paths rather than being pigeon-holed on their first item. Even at 60% efficiency like that of live, again to make "Power Space" for echo, it would give 60 AP, ultimately reducing the cost of Runic by 525 gold at the cost of 7% movespeed. (Which I might add is only worth 276 gold). This not only reduces the effective cost by 249 gold (not an immense buff) but it creates an item that everone will feel good about purchasing.
In conclusion, I feel like creating multiple items for different arch-types or creating one item that only really fits one, is the incorrect move. I believe the item needs to give only AP, to make it a worthwhile and justified purchase for all Ability Power junglers in the game. Whether it be the first option, which keeps item timings in line with other jungle items, while giving a meaningful stat that everyone can benefit from, or the second option which allows junglers to complete a cheap item with few stats then branch more quickly into the stats they feel benefit their champion best, I much prefer them to the current PBE iteration and I would simply like to know if other players support what I have to say. At the end of the day we as players want to feel validated in our item purchases, not as though we are wasting gold because "Riot doesnt like (Insert champion here whos specific niche isnt met)"
**TLDR: **Make Runic echoes only give AP that way people dont feel they are wasting gold on stats they don't want, allowing them branch into those stats later in their builds. This way no one feels regret in buying the item and people aren't pigeon-holed on their first recall. 2 alternatives that I came up with are listed above. Thanks for taking the time to read. <3
