Is garen still viable in top lane?

YES, he is great if you build him correctly. You have to build him more amour than damage, for he gets better perks with armour. He is great at being a tank that bullies people in lane. Watch out because he is weak against ranged top laners for they can just poke him down and make his passive useless. But he is great being a tank that soaks up damage and never dies.

yes... garen is really pick safe and strong against most melee... anyhow... against ranger... you required different strategy and knowledge to trade with ranger....

Garen has always been a niche pick - use him to counter. I still like him top lane.

He's a good top laner for those who don't really play top and are forced in it. He's an incredibly easy champion to play, but on the downside, he doesn't really bring much to the team. I don't think that maining this champion is worth it, but he does well as an "I don't know what else to play" pick. Just build and full tanky.

Possibly because they have too much respect for themselves to play the easiest champion in the game.

He can be used to counter certain picks, but he's easily hard countered himself. Most high elo players won't take the chance picking into a difficult lane or having a difficult lane forced upon them.

He is still good, but he is more of a niche pick. The rework to him will bring him back.
