Need Advice From Good Shaco Player

So, I was trying to learn Shaco in top lane yesterday against a Khazix top + Elise jg and I clearly didn't know how Shaco mechanics worked so I was hoping for some advice from better Shaco players.

  1. There were multiple occasions where I dropped a box and one or the other would walk over the box, but they'd just instantly auto-attack it and kill it without a fear. Does the fear take a certain amount of time before kicking in? I know it can work, there were a few times I stacked 2-3 boxes and Khazix got feared/killed like I would expect. It seemed like it was only an issue with 1 box?

I also double-checked each one's tenacity. I wasn't paying attention to their runes, but otherwise they didn't have any.

  1. There was a time Khazix ignited me and got me low, he was about half-bar. I stayed under tower and figured I'd bait him, then q away when he took aggro. I managed to q away as planned when he dived, but then he just walked up to me and auto-attacked me, killing me. Are there any caveats to how shaco q works? How did he see me (he had no ignite)?

So, any higher elo Shaco players have any advice, especially about w/q mechanics?

  1. Your boxes take a second to "arm". They will be visable when you place them, then after a brief delay they will become invisable and be ready to fear enemies. This could also be a problem if they have a red trinket, as it disables and reveals boxes.

  2. I don't know about the second one, but if he happened to place a pink ward on you it would have revealed you. Also if he had been in the animation for an auto attack before you Q'd, his auto attack would finish it's animation and do damage even if it looked like you had Q'ed away in time.

Also some advice. Top lane Shaco is very rarely built AD or splitpush. It is usually built AP. If you want some help on it, search Pink Ward on Youtube, he is the inspiration of the new Shaco ult change that spawns the "illuminati" boxes, so he's kind of a celebrity for top lane Shaco.

  2. He didn't pink, I'm positive, and he just walked up to me and auto'd. It wasn't like he auto'd, I q'd, then I died.

I don't have alot of time to give you advices right now, but i'll give you a little trick you can use instead.

When your Q and use your recall right after, you'll recall while invisible for the duration of your invisibility.
