Should I play ranked for the first time in preseaon?

Hey guys, I JUST got to level 30. My friends say its a good idea to pkay ranked in preseason just for fun. Will my results carry out next season? Also, is it a good idea to play my placement matches with my silver 2 friend?

-Cheers

generally speaking, its a good idea to only play ranked always and never normals. rankeds simply have the potential to be higher quality games and teach you more about the game. in the end, its only your fear that keeps you from playing, there is no downside.

I disagree. While ranked can be great, it's designed for truly competitive play and see how you measure up against others. Normals is still competitive, but designed for fun and practice. Which one you play is more of a function of what you want to do with the game.

That said, if you just reached 30 then you'll likely be placed in low bronze just based solely on not having the experience to know what to do in a competitive arena in the game. Don't get discouraged if that's the case. You will be playing against people in their best roles and champs that have been playing much longer than you. You will (eventually) be playing with people of similar skill and against similar skill. And you'll have trolls and smurfs all over the place.

That said, there is definitely the opportunity to learn from ranked. I suggest using op.gg or replay.gg to record your matches (the latter will record all matches automatically) and use them often to see what you are doing right and wrong. Little improvements go a long way.

Awesome. Yeah, preseason is a bit iffy all-around. I've seen people go from s1 to g2 and back down already. That's why a lot of people are switching over to normals until things settle down.

Anivia is really strong right now. She's getting nerfed in the next patch (http://www.newsoflegends.com/index.php/wip-pbe-round-up-all-content-for-patch-5-24-52322/#9).

She's good but she isn't broken, why are they nerfing her?

I can't answer the "why", unfortunately. She's viewed as being a bit too strong in the current meta. So they're taking away a little bit of the safety she has in sieging and narrowing the window of when she can do extra damage. Nothing too severe, but neither one I can argue against either as they don't change how you play her and if you're good then these won't really impact you.

I know many people disagree with newer players going in "unprepared", but what is the worst that will happen? You will likely get placed in bronze as a newer player, but that means nothing. You will still be playing against people who likely did the same exact thing. I don't believe the game quality is very different from normals, so I generally only play ranked for rewards, but if you enjoy the excitement of visibly seeing yourself improve while you climb through the ranks, then by all means, go ahead.
