Top laner need some advice

So I've been playing top lane nasus for a while, I find it's a lane and champ that I can be pretty effective at carrying mid late game. Couple things I wanted advice on tho. First the proper use of teleport. I was using is mainly to get back to lane after backing, and sometimes getting to a team fight. But someone said I shouldn't use it just to return to lane, so last night I tried to save it more for ganks bot side. I was able to secure the team 3 kills with it. I just want to make sure I'm using it properly. Second thing, elixirs and when/if I should get these. I watched a gameplay of nasus and the guy bought and elixir of iron. I honestly forgot these things even existed so I was wondering are they worth it? One more thing I just thought of is when should I first back. When I can afford a first buy, if the enemy recalls or roams? Thanks for taking the time :)

definitely save your teleport for saving your team as much as you can. as for the elixer, its more of a situational item rather than an essential. Now, your first back to buy should be about level 3 or 4 depending on how your lane is going.

For most top champs, saving teleport for teamfights in another lane is very important and I usually try to save most of my teleports after my first one (when I backed and then teleported back to lane). That said, your use of teleport depends on your lane. If you're getting denied or camped, then it is potentially worth it to use teleport to get back to your lane so you don't fall further behind.

Also, which champs you are playing matter. Shen, for instance, usually wants to use his ult to get mid/bot/dragon and then teleport back to lane after the teamfight.

For nasus, it's really up to you. If you're securing kills and impacting other lanes with tp, great. That said, Nasus's main priority is usually farming and getting Q stacks so keep that in consideration.

Another thing to consider is what your lane opponent is doing. if your lane opponent is teleporting bot, you need to make a split second decision. Can/do you try to interrupt their teleport? Can/do you try to mirror their teleport with one of your own so that you arrive at the same time? If you cannot interrupt, then often this is your best choice. All else fails, you need to alert your team and then push top tower as hard as you can.

Late game, if your teleport is up and your team is decent at coordination, you want to be applying pressure to another lane and then teleport in if a fight develops.

By and large, the advantage of TP is the ability to impact other lanes. That said, it's usually a value judgment. I tend to save my TP whenever possible and look to use it bot/dragon.
