Climbing as support

Can Riot pls take less LP from support when there team loses game, I mean it's ridiculous, whenever I win a match I get like 10-15 LP but when I lose I get 20 or more taken away. It's already almost impossible to climb in ranked as support since you're basically fully dependent on the rest of your team doing well since team gold is a supports only constant source of gold. Yes you can play a Lux or Zyra support and build like a mid laner, but even then you're still semi dependent on your team for gold because supports can't take cs. No matter which way you put it as support you can only do well when the rest of your team does well.

Please don't put in the comments "well it's the supports job to help the team, you bronze noob." What the hell am I suppose to do when mid is feeding and jg is to busy farming to ever, EVER, gank? It's not always the supports fault, like when you're adc turret dives at half health.

If you want infinite heals play Sona, because of patch 6.14 she's completely busted with heals.

Hey, I know those feels.

I would suggest picking up another role if you soloqueue, or get a friend to be your ADC, practice until you have synergy, then have a go at it.

LP gain has to do with your MMR btw, so it's different for everyone. Losing more LP when you lose as opposed to winning LP when you win means the system thinks you're supposed to be at a lower bracket. (To get out of that position start winning more, especially consecutively).

Easier said than done. I use to be in Bronze 1 but since then I have only gotten on troll teams and feeders, I was thrown all the way down to Bronze 4 in less than a week. I've only recently been able to climb to Bronze 3.

I've had the same problems as a support main. I dropped from Silver 5 to Bronze 3 because I can't carry a team, and relying on people who die because they don't build situationally or try to solo team fights is just the worst thing to suffer through. The guy who claims that supports can carry is clearly not normal, and clearly has never had to deal with anything below Silver 5. ELO Hell exists in lower silver and bronze, and it is exceptionally difficult to claw through the "THEY'RE FED, OPEN MID" and the "F##K YOU, KS NOOB!" and the ever popular "(Insert Champ) IS TOO F##KING OP, AFK." As a support, you can't help the top lane or mid during laning, and no amount of CC set up will stop your Vayne from trying to 1 v 2 a Morgana and Jhin, so you're very much at the mercy of narcissistic players who think they can play Riven into anyone or run Yasuo top lane and not get his face bashed in by Darius, and you're always at the mercy of the "PL4TSMURF" ADC who insists that these near melee range ADCs like Lucian and Vayne will do great against ranged powerhouses like Ashe, Caitlyn, and Jhin. Lower leveled ranked is hell, because people play who they want to play, and never even remotely try to counterpick. Then, it all goes downhill from there when they get pasted by the enemy and start tilting to the extreme because they're constantly getting killed.

Where have you been this entire time? You understand the struggle us supports go through...

Supports carry in a different manner than other players (i.e. peeling/ccing/etc), but supports can still carry. Or alternatively, a good support will enable someone else on the team to carry, even if they might not quite be good enough to carry by themselves.

I've been a solo queue support all season, and I've gone from placing mid silver, to currently being in the middle of plat 3.

As with every other role, some games you're going to find your teammates are feeding too hard too quickly and the game is a lost cause, but in the games where that doesn't happen, it's up to you to make the difference in whatever way you can in order to trend upwards. Remember to climb you don't need a 100% win rate, you only need >50%.

If i climb from B4 to Gold5, it takes 5 games to promotion, 2 extra for getting promoted; and i have to do it for like at least 56 winning games or more given i won every game. With 60% to 70% win rates, u need extra 20-40 games given that u have won every promotion series to get to Gold; V; i can see the frustration from a player who really wants to climb Elo.

With 60-70% winrates rates, your mmr is going to be climbing faster than your rank, so one could realistically find themselves needing 4 games to get to promo series instead of 5, and possibly even get to the point where they skip a division or two.

That said, it still takes awhile to climb, but that's true for pretty much everyone. Master tier players and so on may do those unranked to diamond in 10 day things, but they're still playing like 100 games or more in that time.

You do have the whole season to get there though, so even playing a couple games/day people should be able to play the 100 games needed to get where they 'belong' (and of course they're probably actually getting better as they play too), and so it shouldn't be that frustrating.

Also, one would like to think that people enjoy playing the game itself (particularly when they're winning more often than not), so it should be a relatively enjoyable road along the way regardless of your rank/rank ambitions. Sure theres plenty of bad apples that spoil things, and negativity bias is definitely a real effect, but ranks are just milestones to aim for, rather than the sole source of your enjoyment.

The amount of LP you win or lose is dependent on your personal score, being how well you contributed to the match.

Kills, Deaths, Assists, CS, Towers, Inhibs, Dragons, and Barons, all contribute to your personal score. Having a really good score will net you roughly 20-25 LP when you win and 10-17 when you lose.

Just die less and kill more. If you have less then 5 deaths a game, with roughly 7 kills and 14 assists, you will start seeing the difference.

As a support? Do you even know what supports are supposed to do? 6 out of the 8 things you listed a support is supposed to give away when possible. A support is supposed to give any and every kill away when possible(only getting them by accident or when someone else is incapable of finishing them off), have a high kill participation, and as low of deaths as possible, while still sacrificing yourself for the team when needed. And little to NO cs. Towers, inhibitors, dragon kills and Baron kills(not assists) also should be given to the adc/anyone else on the team when possible. As a support, 14 assists is low unless the total kills is ~20.

This is a good example of a good support game. 65% kill participation, lowish deaths, no kills, and lots of wards placed. Now, I could have revealed more wards to be destroyed, but I tend to forget about the trinket.

So sure, if the champ that is designed to do their jobs without gold takes gold and shortchanges the people who do need it, then yes, you will see the difference. Not a good one, but you will see one.

Look at my match history.

I play almost nothing but support in ranked, and actually just got out of bronze today, and won my first game in silver.

I'm not saying I'm good, but being that I went from Bronze 2 to Bronze 1 in four games due to how I've been playing, then to Silver 5, I absolutely do believe in what I have said.

Hey, I'm with you that it sucks when a teammate in another lane is getting stomped and you end up losing to the super fed irelia or something. But that's no different than someone playing top who ends up losing because bot fed. It is possible to climb in any role and there is no reason for support to get special treatment in terms of LP gains/loses. I'm a support too and while I'm still in B1 I've been steadily climbing up. No matter what you think, you are making mistakes that you can work on to get better. Just focus on you, try to help your team with vision and map pings, and eventually things will get better.
