Any champ recommendations/tips for a support main who wants to try top lane?

I only know how to play 2 ADCs and Midlaners but in general I'm mediocre in both roles not only in building items but in knowing the role itself (and csing but I guess that just takes practice). I haven't been able to successfully jungle and I main support.

I want to try playing more melee champions in a 1v1 scenario where I'm required to actually get in and fight for CS. It's mostly because outside of support and straight up tanks, melee in general is out of my comfort zone (less chance of escape once you decide to go in, is how I've felt about it) but I want to learn how to play it and get around it not only to broaden my champion pool but to understand the role a bruiser or melee dps has in a game (and to understand top lane as a role in general). Question is I have no idea who to start playing with, because I always feel like I need a champion that can do 'ok' in every if not most match ups so I can learn how to fight other champions up there but I also feel this is unrealistic. Any recommendations with explanations would be very helpful.

Currently have enough IP for a 3150 champ but I can save up for more expensive ones if I don't own the one that's recommended.

The supports I'm comfortable with playing into almost any match up are: Leona Nami Lulu And the rest of the ones I'm comfortable with playing are: Braum Sona Sion Thresh .

If it helps at all the only two midlaners I can play with any sort of confidence are Lux and Taliyah while the adcs are Jhin and Jinx .

Sion, Naut, Maokai and Malphite are all "supports" could all viably go top.

Lulu is a pain to deal with too. As a Riven main, I don't think I've ever won lane against Lulu. Maybe I'm just bad or something, but people chose Lulu top for a reason.

As a support main that only ends up top if the stars align... Pick someone like Nasus or Malphite. Top is a very interesting role that's focused a lot around zoning and space respect. It's not as bursty as other lanes in my experience and a lot of trading can turn into boxing matches that end with first blood really easy. It's like a really precise game of chicken. Unless you put the time in to become nuanced at these types of interactions you may as well stick to champs that ignore that completely. Most tanks can get away with it though, but those would be my two suggestions. Plus Nasus is fun cause if you end up with 400 damage at 15 minutes you're just gunna be on cruise control for wins.

The benefit of starting here is you can fall back on their skills to help you stay in lane and slowly build up your knowledge of each champ's power spikes and ways they deal with aggression and also put it out then apply that to other top champs that interest you.

Play Sion top. He was a top laner before he was a support anyway.

Thresh and braum work really well in some matchups.
