Daily reminder N°97812 : Solo Q is still asked for the majority of players.
How many times do we need to say it ?
You can't ignore us forever, c'mon.
How many times do we need to say it ?
You can't ignore us forever, c'mon.
I know I'm going to be downvoted to oblivion, but SoloQ isn't being asked by the majority of players, only by the majority of this forum and probably high end players. I personally don't miss SoloQ, but I agree that DynamicQ isn't even near being called the perfect solution, but for context, I asked all my local friends (Silver ranking, play both ranked and normal games, which is most likely the common player denominator) and 8 out of 9 prefer the new queue.
So yeah, I understand your gripes, but people screaming for SoloQ is a very loud minority, to be honest. That being said, I hope that a middle ground can be met soon, probably holding the new ranked system but limiting big time how premades can be played as to not fuck Solo players over.
When you say 'the new queue' I can't help but wonder if, like others, they're confusing DQ with the new champ select. So I am boldly asking you to /remake your small survey with that detail added in.
I mean, that's why we're here in the first place, because Riot did the exact same thing to us.
I love this type of argument.
"The majority doesnt want solo queue, just the boards and reddit"
Ok prove it
Well, I can't prove it, but Riot has made in-client pools, which are much more representative of the full player base, and they said that a total of 14% (from memory, might be slightly off) of the player base disliked DQ, with roughly twice that liking DQ, and the majority of players not caring at all.
But then, you'll say that Riot is just lying... You'll never be satisfied.
I wasnt given this in client pool.
*polls, my bad.
And you don't send polls at 100% of the player base, but you can still ensure you send them to a large enough sample, representative of the whole player base, and without the bias of taking only people who come to the boards and invest themselves in the community.
I mean if you want true statistics why not send it at the whole player base. It's just numbers. Ive been strongly opposed to DQ and i have a large sample size of games played, youd think my view point would be a good one to have. Yet i didnt get a poll, probably because i dislike dq
And how would they know that before even sending you the survey, that you dislike DQ?
Boards
[deleted]
Well there was a time where riot actually cared about their players and discussed with us at the boards/forums but only as long as the "small" community was needed to make lots of $$$$$. Now with the amount of $$$ they already have there seems to be no need for riot anymore. I just hope their apathy will backfire, massively. And it's not only DQ Posts. No rioter is actually answering any questions on champ design, items, bugs or what ever. MAYBE some rioter accidently tumbled over a thread and thought he could answer that but that's rare. Memes&games is so much more important or "stupid" ideas and skins and bla
uh.. checking the game history of a given player or the boards history of the player?
The latter might take a slightly more complex word-searching algorithm, but the former would be easy as shit for them to do.
Computers aren't fuckin' magic, compiling data on a large group of players would be easy with access to the information at Riot's disposal. You're telling me they keep track of all the information on a user account and you think they couldn't figure out if a player's preference was for DQ or not?
Hell, they literally could just check whether after the removal of solo queue a player quit ranked or switched to blind pick. That alone would give a more targeted subgroup of players who likely are opposed to DQ and would take an easy scrubbing of a player's match history. And that's the easiest, most braindead way to figure out how to not poll DQ haters, there are far better methods.
OK, sure, that's technically possible, my bad. I read his post as "why have I been singled out of the people who received the survey", and my point was, he probably hasn't been singled out.
But you're right, it would be damn easy to cheat the results of a survey. Thing is, they don't even need to do that. They can collect real data, that are actually useful for them, and then simply lie about the results of the survey. Why would they bother putting in place automated systems and data-mining methods if they can simply tell whatever they want? If you don't trust them, you don't need to invent complicated schemes when they can just plain and simple lie.
Sure, but the benefit of scheming the data is there's no possibility of their lie being found out. If they release "real" data (schemed or not), then they don't have to worry about that headline from the one mo'fo' who decides to put forth the work to check whether their statement is a lie or not (cuz, let's be real, there's always that one guy).
Plus, cheating the results grants them a way to claim internally that they did a fair and unbiased survey, which obviously has it's own benefits (as I'm sure not EVERYONE at Riot is a tool).
Unless you mean the survey where they took the responses from "do you like playing with friends?" And contorted that into lets fuck over solo players and high elo players in ranked!
what is DQ without playing with friends? that's right soloq.
But its like me asking do you like being warm? And if you say yes i crank the temperature to 120° in every single room in your house.
Their reaction to the response is not indicative of the question asked.
Well, I can't prove it, but Riot has made in-client pools, which are much more representative of the full player base, and they said that a total of 14% (from memory, might be slightly off) of the player base disliked DQ, with roughly twice that liking DQ, and the majority of players not caring at all.

that poll they had was full of loaded questions. they didn't specifically ask "do players prefer solo queue over dynamic queue"
they said "what do players like about dynamic queue"
of course when you gear a question towards getting positive responses it's going to look like the community likes dynamic queue.
I never even saw such a poll...when was this? I literally would have left the question blank if asked "what do (I) like about DQ"
They didn't poll everyone. Which is partially why their "valid statistics" are a load of complete and utter bullshit. Riot asked loaded questions at targeted groups in order to attain skewed results to substantiate their own opinions.
This is not a conspiracy theory. This is a fact, based on the information presented to us. How people feel about DQ or SQ is irrelevant to this, in my opinion: The real problem is Riot has apparently sunk low enough to pull off bullshit like this. That's what pisses me off. I'd say "Money does shitty things to people", but more likely Riot's degradation into arrogant jerks was more "Some people are just shitty, and when they have money, they stop caring who knows", even if that means alienating a large group of their playerbase.
Oh well. At least I have Overwatch, Blizzard doesn't pretend they're a nicer group of people just so you support them on the way up. I'd rather my game company be honest about not giving a shit about its players as long as they're paying, than a company act like they actually give a crap about it's playerbase's opinions until they think they're too big to listen anymore.
Hope you had fun with your era Rito. Welcome to the decline.
Wasn't that loaded question thing the shit that Lyte got raked over the coals for (and then subsequently "resigned")?
Oh what a surprise, of course your friends like it, you're boosting them.

easy. make a ranked solo ladder. and 5 team ladder.
if you want to play with friends go normals. because at that point you aren't caring about your own skill level or what badge you get except screwing over others
You can't prove what the non-vocal community wants though. So you can't say what most of the community wants.
Aye, the majority don't actually give a damn one way or the other.
There are 4 groups of people on the debate of solo vs dynamic:
Those who don't give a shit (by far the largest group)
Those who aren't able to form an educated opinion of the system (this is occupied by people who are very new to the game as a whole and thus cannot make an educated decision one way or the other)
Those who hate it or at the very least dislike it enough that they feel the old system was better (the so called "vocal minority," which is actually made up by nearly every single high-ranked player out there, and houses a fairly large amount of people)
Those that love it (the quiet minority. There really aren't any posts stating any form of praise, and before you go saying "hurr durr they would be downvoted into obli----" stop. NO, those posts do exist, and the ones that are thoughtful and not insulting....which are sadly in the minority.... are actually upvoted and are generally at positive upvotes).
You see, the people that love dynamic que (largely because they can play ranked with friends), generally loved ranked teams because ranked teams allowed them to achieve that very goal. They also like dynamic que because it isn't as restricting as ranked teams are (requires a full team of 5, all have to be on the same ranked team, etc). Those requirements can actually be tweaked and made more lenient (perhaps requiring you to be on the same team, but in this case you can que up as a duo, or a trio, or as a full 5 man, and then face similar teams). Granted this would mean an average of a longer que for duo and trio players, this would end up in a reduced que time for full 5 man teams, so in the end it should end up with roughly no net gain or loss to the previous que times (and if there was a gain/loss to que times then it should be rather small).
But the whole underlying point is, while you can actually appeal to the group that loves dynamic que (even when literally removing that actual system). You cannot appeal to the group that prefers solo-que. There literally is no way to actually appeal to those that want solo que so long as dynamic que in its current format exists.
Of course we arent't the majority of the players, but we actually care enough about the game and it's current state to complain about it and show riot that they are doing something wrong. The other players dont't come out and say: Oh yeah, DQ is awesome, beacause they actually dont't care as much about the game as we do. They would even play the game when riot would fuck ut up more.
WE complain because we love League of Legends and want it to change so we are able to have fun again.
Yea honestly like Adebug said I can't believe how many people group the idea of dynamic queue and new champ select together. I bet a majority of players get confused, but if you explained the difference to all of them a majority would say they do not prefer dynamic queue.
it's just when you actually get invested in the game and be competitive at it, dynamic Q is a slap in the face.
I'm sure there are some actual silvers that have invested a lot of time in the game and are still silver; nothing against them.
but generally speaking silvers are basically fucking casuals that would prefer dynamic Q because they're not extrmely invested in the game, theyre just trying to have a good time and playing with some friends delivers that; it's fun for them to play with buddies (and it is fun if you're just playing the game to have fun.
but that spits on the solo players that are playing the game more competitively and arent trying to make/play with friends.
so the minority (solo players that dont want to play with premades) are tossed to the trash in favor of the majority opinion (bronze/silver unskilled players that are just trying to have fun).
so yeah theyre gonna be pretty vocal about basically being forsaken for the "greater good".
doesnt matter either way, riots a business that wants to make money. I get it, that means a big middle finger to solo players, basically.
which is fine, that's their decision, but the competitive value of the game is what is sacrificed for that business; good luck keeping the competitive scene meaningful. already faker is throwing games on the whim and what can i say he probably gives no fucks about the game due to its current trajectory.
but when your posterboy really gives zero fucks about his brand that's a glaring issue
Oh look, its the silent majority "argument" once again.
Oh, and you do realise, that a sample size of 9 is not exactly showing more weight than the forum community with thousands of readers and commenters?

Solo Q is still asked for the majority of players.
This is a lie, Riot has already said several times that all the data shows this is just a vocal minority.
Even most of the surveys that solo queue requesters put forth show a massive non-response bias indicating that only a very small portion of the playerbase want solo queue back.
Then why HotS abandoned Dynamic queue?
Then why HotS abandoned Dynamic queue?
Then go play HotS
Answer the question. If dynamic is so good, why did Hots a MORE teamwork based game, abandon it for solo?

Answer the question. If dynamic is so good, why did Hots a MORE teamwork based game, abandon it for solo?
Not going to answer it because i simply hate HotS, if DQ is that bad to you and you like HotS system then get on their boards and whine somewhere else about something else. I like league, not every move they make is perfect but rather a brick in the house that theyre building to be something hopefully amazing. I'm just here to enjoy the ride and hand them the bricks because I love the game and I know DQ may or may not be temporary but it most definitely will evolve and change so theres no point in wasting my time being a baby about it.
Answer, the question. Instead of avoiding it, because it simply shows that you cannot support your argument.
Hots has a very small player base compared to League. It's suprising that they decided to go for a more individual based game when Hots requires far more teamwork than League. A better idea would have been to keep the dynamic queue already in place.
So basically, to answer your question, I don't know what they are trying to do. They're just going bananas.
So wait a second, when Riot makes a decision, it all makes sense and all of us "haters" should shut up.
But when Blizzard makes a decision, they are instantly bananas.
Well gee, how does that work?

The good news is that Blizzard actually listened to their player base when they realized how badly their Sudden Death is hated. Dynamic Queue still makes match ups and moving up and down ranks stupid though.
Meanwhile, Riot has only done away with Solo Queue entirely and brought back 5v5s as a featured game mode and eliminated it from Dynamic Queue. Logic.
This is a lie, Riot has already said several times that all the data shows this is just a vocal minority.

why dont they show this data?
why dont they show this data?
Because they don't really think it would convince you that Dynamic Queue is the right choice. Even if the data was completely perfect (which isn't really possible) then people asking for solo queue will nitpick some tiny nothing and claim that it is a source of massive bias.
The point of the data is for them to learn what the best course of action so that they can go through with the best course of action. Showing it to players, even if it perfectly supports their decision, doesn't really contribute towards convincing players that it is the right decision.
Ehhh nope. If riot would finally and simply make an in-client survey and publish the data afterwards or make it possible to view it in-client in real time or at their website at least there wouldn't be any more complains (atleast from my side) if actually a great majority prefers the possibility to rank up with any number of premades (like 60%). Otherwise it's just crap pulled out of their asses.
Because you are neither a corporate executive, nor an investor, and as such there is need to show their data. You can either take the statement at face value and accept that you're wrong, or... what? Are you honestly gonna claim that they're lying straight to your face? To what end? What would they accomplish by doing that? At the end of the day, their job is to make money. If the majority of players REALLY want solo queue, then the loss of solo queue means that the majority of players will stop spending money, and Riot would reverse their decision because why would they want to keep losing money? But they're not reversing the decision, which means it isn't hitting their pocketbook especially hard, which means that the majority of players actually just don't give a shit. To claim otherwise is to indulge in some serious tinfoil-hat/NWO/9-11-cover-up conspiracy theory nonsense.

well if they did have that data then why wouldnt they show it to the boards seeing as these threads are common and they are losing a lot of players.
That's just it. They're not.
But they are. There's a REASON Riot hasn't shown their playerbase growth statistics for the past couple years. Because they stopped growing, at least exponentially.
League's popularity peaked in season 3, iirc. Which means since then, player satisfaction in general and player interest has slowly declined. Sure they get new players and there's a somewhat dedicated fanbase, but the peak of leagues popularity came and went. That's fine, it happens to all games, it doesn't mean League is "dying".
And then they had multiple seasons people hated, with season 6 being the most vocally hated in awhile due to a number of factors (champion balance and meta shifts being the most noteworthy I would guess). And then they did this whole DQ fiasco. And then Overwatch came out in like the same week that Riot announced solo queue is gone for good, and it's the first real competitor for the gaming time of League players.
League isn't on the verge of death or anything. But pretending they're NOT losing players is just simple naivety. They are. They just won't tell you about it, because that's how you lose more players. When a company acknowledges it's own decline to the public, that decline happens far faster as people lose interest in a "dying" game. That's just how it works and how it's always worked.
Just because it doesn't look like it to the single bronze player queueing up whose queue times are roughly the same (because League still has a bunch of players, even with a large amount ragequitting over DQ or moving to Overwatch), that doesn't mean that League isn't hemorrhaging players. It'd just be really stupid of them to come out and say "yup, players are quitting".
Riot's data is unreliable, mainly because they do not take all variables into account. For example, they say that DQ has lowered toxicity. They look at one variable, the amount of reports. However, they don't take into account the fact that a toxic person on a premade team is far less likely to get a lot of reports then a toxic solo player because their teammates won't report them. So don't just blindly believe something because "Riot's Data" says so.
I think they don't even take elo or the fact that you are a ranked or normal player as important parameters in their polls, and the only poll I got wasn't unique, I could do it over and over again... I'm not sure if they lack technical knowledge to do that OR they really don't think it's worth to add parameters... Probably both.
