Bans are not for OP champions...
...bans are meant to counter a specific player in professional play.
We get to dick around with bans in ranked solo duo, but stop asking for more bans as they really don't concern us.

People ban what they have difficulty playing against (either due to counter-picking, or they simply aren't good against it) too, and that is a legitimate way to use your bans. They concern people outside professional play whether you care about it personally or not.
So if we only add more bans to solo-queue, you're cool with 10 bans?
Uh, I rather not test my luck against a zed/kata/lb/riven etc. so I just ban them away
If a person says a champ is "OP" it may be because they themselves have difficulty facing said champion, or someone on their team does. OP is simply such a widely used term.
bans are for higher level play to ban champions that are a threat to certain team comps, this is where counter picking is used so if i first ban 
the other team may first pick or ban

in respose they might ban
