Hidden MMR is BS and probably a money scam by Riot

I just went through my placements and won 6 out of 10 (i won 5 in a row, lost4, won the last) and was placed in bronze 3. My buddy won 3 and got placed silver. My friend usually climbs to mid gold during a season. Meanwhile, I stopped playing due to always being in bronze 1. So while I was doing my placements, I was excited that I won so many, and was looking forward to placing in silver. But much to my chagrin, I was put back in middle bronze.

New seasons are new seasons. I hate having my rank throttled because you don't believe I should be any higher. I shouldn't have to make a new account for a fair chance to move up. My LP shouldn't choke because i'm getting away from my MMR through the season. It feels like Riot does this so people make new accounts and spend money on them.

Don't think they are that greedy? Look at the disgusting gotchya system for the little legends. Making you buy sets of lootboxes for a hope of getting the one you want, and then leveling it by buying more!

When the season resets, your rank tends to shift downward about a full tier. So if you ended S8 in Bronze I, you're going to start your "climb" at ~Bronze IV or Iron I, but maybe somewhat higher. Even with accelerated promos, 6 games isn't exactly a large sample. If you want to climb you just gotta keep playing more games, and make sure youre learning from your mistakes.

MMR is like a Balance. Lets use a banking example. You have 100$. You make 50$. You now have 150$. Your friend has 200$. He makes 25$. he now has 225$. Which one of you has more $? Your friend, you might have earned more but his starting balance is higher.

Lets talk about win rates. Who you play matters. If you fight 1000 toddlers and win you have beaten 1000 opponents and have a 100% win rate. You think Hell yes, my ability to crush children who are still learning how to walk properly is an accurate representation for my skill as a fighter and then go into MMA ring... You get Demolished by some dude with a 45% Win rate. Gee golly gosh! apparently the context of who your beating matters for proper accounting for skill.

Lets talk about streaks. MMR is a balance. The order is irrelevant apart from impact generated by K Factor and We variables. Lets shelf that for now. Your history is say WWWWL. Alternate version of you has WWWlW. Lets say your gaining 5 points per match. So (5+5+5+5-5) Vs (5+5+5-5+5). Do the basic addition and low and behold! alternative version and real you result in this. 15points gained Vs 15 points gained. 15=15 so clearly wwwwl = wwwlw. Crazy who coulda guessed basic addition works like this?

Your ranks not throttled. It never locks you down. You can fix your account if you improve and grind the numbers out. Its EASYER to try and rely on high K factor and luck to hit gold then it is to be reliably able to achieve that. But if your banking on luck of teammates your gambling with a bad hand because your unable to rely on yourself.

So, don't trip it. Honestly stop freaking out about your rank. What you can do is just play because you enjoy the game. If climbing is important to you what you need is to focus on self improvement every game because thats the only reliably way to shift the odds into your favor and the only variable you have any control over.

Stupidly imo when talking about silver, people think its "low" or "bad" but thats the MMR for the average player. Being silver is never a mark of shame. Bronze just means that your a little below average. No big deal, all you need is to become roughly 5% better compared to the average player and you can hit gold.

End of the day what matters is if you enjoy the game. Know why your playing and what makes it enjoyable Or your just wasting your time.

Riot's greedy but I really think this is a stretch. Making a new account is free. MMR usually places you lower than you were last season, even if you get a decent amount of wins. If you're better than that, you should be able to climb.
