Question to Riot about changing the Ranked point system. Players please give ideas/thoughts on this.

So for the ranked system, although it's always been like this, it's starting to feel a little more unreasonable now. The way the points work is determined by if you lose or win and your MMR. The reason I feel this way is because if you're MMR is bad, you'll most likely get around 15-18 LP if you win, and lose maybe 20-23 LP, if it's like this then it makes it really hard to climb. To me, this doesn't seem fare at all because it entirely depends on your teams gameplay and and if you win or lose. For the solos out there, this is can be pretty frustrating (unless you just don't care, then stop reading this) because you will almost never have a consistent team unless premade, so it's never a guarantee.

What I think would be an interesting change, is if LP worked in somewhat of a similar way as getting a rank on a champion. Your LP would depend on your MRR and win/lose, but also take into account of your KDA depending on your role. I feel this would make things a little better because everyone knows how it feels when you do really good in a game then lose at least 2 games worth (if you have poor/average MMR) of LP (not literally, I just mean it'll take 2 games to get that LP back, as well as gain more past it) that you'll have to work really hard to get back especially with random teams when you go solo.

Also this would make a lot more people feel better when they have a feeder on the team so that person's LP doesn't get carried by everyone else so they'll get less LP even when they win. Maybe this can start to affect their LP once their deaths have gone past 5 (or come up with and idea for this on your own), and at that point it would check their whole KDA too.

I don't know exactly how they should/can implement this, I was hoping they can sort that out. I know this is a sort of a big change because of how long ranked points have worked in the same consistent way, but it just doesn't feel right to me anymore. Having bad MMR is like falling behind in a high school class lol, it only gets worse. This might help a little for those who are falling behind, and not help too much for those who are doing really well, and this doesn't sound too bad of an idea for me and the other few who I've shared this with.

Taking KDA into account of getting/losing LP doesn't have to be a lot of points, maybe only a difference of 1-3, but every little bit helps. Maybe to get the points to gain the extra LP (for example if you're mid/top) when your KDA is 2.0 (this is a random number, hopefully riot gets the point and can balance it) or higher.

For those who think this would be too big of a change for people that have a really good MMR and then this would just boost it even further, maybe Riot can sort out the balance between them and they might receive a tax of not getting so much out of the KDA points and only get an extra 1 LP.

Then at the end of the game it can show up next to your normal LP a 1-3+/- .

I'm hoping for a Rioter to read this and give feedback on it but also wanting players thoughts on this too. Thanks.

Firstly, I think that when you have low MMR, you gain more LP for wins and lose less LP for losses as this is really the only way that makes sense - I might be completely wrong on this tho.

Secondly, no matter what your role, KDA is NOT an accurate indicator of individual contribution to your team. Grades (shown in post game lobby) are more accurate, as they also take into account your participation in team objectives (e.g. tower destruction, wards placed, dragon) and compare it to how the rest of the community has performed on that same champion. So I'm gonna form my following opinions on a grades-based system rather than a KDA-based one (no offense :3).

I will list out the likely pros and cons of implementing an individual grades-based LP system that I can think of:

Pros: Trolls, griefers, and feeders in general will lose MMR very quickly People who carry their team should climb faster and generally be placed higher Players will generally have more motivation to improve their grades

Cons: Might promote an unhealthy environment where people play very selfishly, for example: _- a player on a winning team might focus on improving his/her individual rating (because it's extremely difficult to get a perfect rating) rather than taking the necessary risks to close out the game

  • a player that is on a losing team might only focus on preserving his/her own grade rather than taking the necessary risks to turn the game around
  • someone doing well in lane might choose to stay comfortably in lane without helping other lanes, even if they're struggling (you've probably seen these kinds of people before)
  • Ks'ing_ Increased flaming of teammates when they make mistakes (you've probably seen lots of this too) May add unnecessary stress to keep up grades in a game where it doesn't really help

Overall, it's difficult to predict the outcome of trying out a new system, but the current system should be fine if Riot does it's part in barring harmful players from the game.

I've thought of this as well and thanks for the feedback. I see your point in people are going to want get that little boost in LP and care more about their KDA, but if they do and get selfish and don't help the team, they're going to lose. Regardless if they do get a bonus or not, if they don't help the team they're most likely not going to win the game. If this was the case then Riot would have taken Champion mastery out of ranked play because we all know there are people who don't care about ranked that much and would be more than happy to try to just get a chest and if they win, great, if not then oh well. But I'm pretty sure this will be the same situation with my idea.
