Ryze gameplay-cant get rolling. HELP

So I've been playing ryze since the rework. I like it; he feels solid.. When he wants to. I began playing him in rank after I felt comfortable enough and understood his combos. Once I started playing him in rank, he began to feel.. lackluster. What I mean is, I know he's strong, ive experienced it and seen it. But, I feel like I'm not reaching his "power spike" fast enough, compared to my enemy laner. I feel ryze is way too late game and the games ive played with him seem to finish before he gets there. Hes dropped my winrate and after numerous losses, i decided to drop him, for now. I want to keep him in my play rotation, I really do, but I can't get rolling with him in ranked. The rework is fairly new and I know people are still trying out things.

I wanted to see if anyone out there has had success with him, and if so, if you could write out how you play him. Currently, I play him with stormraiders surge, ghost, flash and have switched him from top to mid. I emphasize on cool down reduction for continuous dps. Core items include archangels and rod of ages and morellos. The rest is built according to game.

any help is greatly appreciated.

Ryze was the first champion I played, back in season 1. I haven't played this new update of him outside of custom games yet because the ult lags my computer, but I know that his win rate increases by a lot over games played. He's VERY high skill cap. Average win rate is around 42%, the lowest current win rate of anyone in the game. However, you can see a steady increase in win rate based on games played. At 100 games played, his win rate is over 56%. This is why Riot isn't buffing him, because to buff him so that his average win rate goes up would make the win rate of those who have gotten over 100 games played with him jump up to well into the broken range. I say to just keep practicing him in normals, make sure you know what you can do and you know your matchups. As with any high skill cap champion, it will take a very long time for you to get him to a consistently high win rate, but once you do, it won't be hard to win games with him. Traditionally, Ryze would build Tear of the Goddess and Rod of Ages. I'm not sure what else most people would buy on this new Ryze because I haven't played him to figure it out for myself. I would also personally run either Stormraider's Surge or Thunderlord's Decree (the Q for double damage from E will proc Thunderlord's). I would also personally use teleport, but most people I see playing him use ghost like you do. I'm really good at coming up with theory for champions, so I can come up with some stuff that might help you. Also, I think that the Oppressor mastery, the one that makes him deal 2.5% more damage to champions that are slowed, stunned, rooted, etc. would be good on him because you can do a combo for a 2 second root, then with 40% CDR, an E Q combo probably while they're still snared for the double Q damage.

new ryze is a monster if you consistently throw the e q combo tear then cd/armor item from the frozen armor then go straight into the rylais.. you should worry about learning to farm with the e..learn to spread it out and harass/zone the enemy pushing from the back line.

@brutal Ugh. So with those percentages, he's niche right now is what you're saying. I'll keep practicing in normals. He's a fun champ; so if those stats are correct and the rewards for mastering him is there, I can keep playing him. I see his potential, I'm just having a difficult time getting there.

@D1rt oh yea, he can harass! So you're saying you build tear, frozen heart and rylais. Do you build a rod of ages as well?
