Blue essence is definitely better [sg-lux-2]

How so?

The new blue essence system is more RNG based, it's more confusing to newer players and it's clearly Riot's way of tempting people to purchase lootbo-....I'm sorry, Hextech chests in order to unlock champions.

IP was better considering you associated IP with champions (and runes) and it wasn't RNG based.

Additionally to unlock level 6 and level 7 masteries for your champions they now cost a ridiculous amount of blue essence, as opposed to the old system where you could spend a mere 500 blue essence to unlock them, which made sense considering blue essence DID NOT interfere with your progression of unlocking all the champions (directly at least)

The blue essence system is not better as there are no actual benefits for us, the community in using this system compared to the old system. It's sure as hell better for Riot though since people will just spend even more money on the game, because that's how lootbo-...I mean Hextech chests work, they feed upon your addictive personalities to the point where you will inevitably drop ~$100 on the game as a newer player simply because you want to skip 40 hours of meaningless gameplay to unlock ~10-20 champions.

If you can think of some benefits the BE system brings for us, the players, then fire away. [slayer-jinx-unamused]

It allows riot to better tune the new player experience towards clear and definite champion unlocks at specific intervals, and encourage those unlocks to be champions that are good for new players to learn, it’s more RNG based which creates exciting moments for players and makes them more interested with engaging with the system, champion discounts can steer players towards champions they wouldn’t normally try but end up liking, and at the end of the day players simply get more BE on average so even if they don’t care about any of this other stuff they still get to unlock the champions they want faster.

Ok, to start with, RNG never makes players excited unless of course you're talking about gambling, which should not be promoted in this game. Additionally you seem to be happy that Riot is effectively promoting gambling as their primary means of in-game currency, which is worrying to say the least. You are also saying that players get more BE on average compared to IP, which simply isn't true at all. If you wish to bring up the graph that is Riot using the best case scenario which hardly ever occurs most of the time, hence the RNG system.

As for the whole "champion discounts" argument, if you're referring to random champion shards that will not draw players to champs they might end up liking since most players plan out on which champ(s) they want to purchase since they view the ability preview(s) and judge whether or not that champ suits them.

You say players unlock champs faster and yet on my level 19 smurf, so far I've only permanently unlocked 6 champs.....and when if I were the same level during the old system I would have ~12 champions. So, I get more champions, right? 6 > 12, right?

Players already know which champs are good for newer players to learn due to the price tags attached to the champion, they do not need additional randomness to figure that out.

You have no idea what you're talking about. There's a reason RNG has been a common design element in games throughout history.

You are also saying that players get more BE on average compared to IP, which simply isn't true at all.

You are incorrect here, too. Riot's charts clearly showed that players gain more BE unless they are playing an absurd amount per day on average, to the point where they look like they play League more as a day job than an actual game, and since those charts were released Riot has further buffed player BE incomes twice.

Players were attracted to trying out new and unexpected champions when the hextech chests went live and rerolling was common as evidenced by how many people complained about its removal, so you're wrong here too. If no one liked random champions they wouldn't have complained the removal of rerolls.

6 champ unlocks in a month is incredibly fast. You can make up numbers all you want but that doesn't mean you're right.

Good joke, new players should stay the hell away from Ryze.

Yes, when RNG isn't to do with unlocking content. Lootboxes are an awful addition to gaming since they are gambling. Deny that all you want as the Belgium Gaming Commission is about to declare it as gambling officially. Hence, using lootboxes are the primary means of unlocking content which allows you to play the game in different ways (not cosmetic) are not to be welcomed and loved. Honestly Riot can keep lootboxes ONLY for cosmetics, but keep the actual champions out of this.

You are incorrect here, too. Riot's charts clearly showed that players gain more BE unless they are playing an absurd amount per day on average, to the point where they look like they play League more as a day job than an actual game, and since those charts were released Riot has further buffed player BE incomes twice.

Am I incorrect? I swear that as a player of the game I might know a lot more than the devs. who hardly ever play enough to test it. Their charts may have shown that players may earn more BE on average, however they're assuming the extremes where the player opens chests with tier 4-5 champion shards which are worth far more than your typical box of "crap" tier champ shard drops. That's the major flaw with their graphs.

This would change if duplicate shards were rarer from the chests you get when you level up, however that simply isn't the case.

Players were attracted to trying out new and unexpected champions when the hextech chests went live and rerolling was common as evidenced by how many people complained about its removal, so you're wrong here too. If no one liked random champions they wouldn't have complained the removal of rerolls.

Players are also initially attracted to champions they unlock with in-game currency, of which Blue Essence qualifies as given how little you get of it. Additionally people did actually complain a lot about the removal of the reroll feature since it was actually pretty efficient in unlocking champions as opposed to hoarding Blue Essence, myself included. Plus, it was clearly Riot trying to stop people from being too efficient as Riot at the end of the day wants to get our money wherever they can.

6 champ unlocks in a month is incredibly fast. You can make up numbers all you want but that doesn't mean you're right.

I'm not making up numbers, that's literally how many champs I have on that account right now being Ashe, Katarina, Nasus, Riven, Yi and Kayle. It's not fast at all since I had double that by the time I was level 19 with the old system since IP was handed out more generously to the point where I was making 500-800 IP per day (it's not hard). Again, this was also when leveling up was harder, so that might factor into all of this.

Good joke, new players should stay the hell away from Ryze.

Ryze is honestly a pretty basic mage, however he does have a skill cap., but his skill floor is really low since he has easy to land spells. The only hard thing about him for newer players is the ult, the rest is figured out via button mashing.

Without runes, stockpiling IP was kind of useless once you had all the champions.

Not at all, you used it to purchase mystery champ shards to upgrade your champion masteries up to levels 6 and 7. You also hoarded it for the release of chromas for IP during certain intervals AND for any new champion that were to come out in future.
