finally got into gold and been enjoying the games so far, then i get grouped on a team with TWO unrankeds, and a wukong who seems to only know to rush duskblade every game even when behind. the three of them have barely won any ranked games this past week... Meanwhile the enemy team has an average rating of gold 4 on each player...

This is basically what happens because of Riot's really really bad matchmaking. I'm Gold 3, and let me tell you, the amount of unranked and low-level silvers I've gotten matched up with shows that Riot has not changed their matchmaking coding. So just be prepared to deal with a lot of unranked players in your ranked games.
It wouldn't be that bad if the lp gains/losses were based on lp. Normally it should be +20 / -20, however if you get matched like this, the gain / loss should be +25 / -15 to compensate.
