Why do people complain about Zed

I think that zed is a strong champion, but not overpowered or anything. He takes skill to use well, and his ult has many counters (zhonya's, exhuast, I even flash to get away and escape his e q after he ults me aswell). (He is my favorite champion and i main him so i may be biased.) He does have pretty good mobility and can escape with his r shadow, but i've never seen him complained about much before. Plus tanks are becoming more popular as well which just makes assassins weaker in general.

While I completely agree he takes a lot of skill to play great, it takes almost no skill to play good with him. What bothers me is he can farm safely from a distance, have ranged harass, have an extremely reliable escape, and still have all the other functions of an assassin making it very hard to do poorly on him. Basically he's low risk - high reward. This is just my personal opinion.

he became op (in relation to every other champ) when mana was nerfed, becuase he is the only champ left who can free farm at range in safety. at the same time he forces mages to rush item 3157 meaning they cant get the mana item that THEY need all the time all he has to do is build his normal item 3134 and unless he does somthing stupid you cant ever really engage in him with him because his ablily to easily trade you and escape for free

He is too safe and snowballs too hard. He can push and poke for free and if he is smart you can't really gank him. Shoving him under turret does virtually nothing since his passive makes CSing under turret braindead simple, plus he has tons of waveclear. He can rush lifesteal items without suffering and his ult (not the damage pop, the escape part) has no real counterplay since the shadow lasts so long.

Some people don't really like having to adapt their champion, build, or playstyle according to their opponents. In my experience, these people seem to overlap a lot with the people who refuse to build according to the game or purchase wards.

As most mid-lane mages, 2x Doran's Rings and a Seeker's Armguard -> Zhonya's Hourglass is enough to handle laning phase. If you need mana and durability, then you can get Rod of Ages instead. If you need CDR and mana sustain, then you can typically get Chalice of Harmony -> Athene's Unholy Grail afterwards.

A lot of mid players usually take Ignite into every lane. Exhaust and Barrier are typically better options for laning against Zed so you can survive his burst to escape, discourage him from all-ining you, or bait him.

When Zed uses his ultimate, a lot of people seem to run away from his shadow instead of staying nearby even if they are capable of winning, which allows Zed to easily escape.

It may also have something to do with the champions played. For example, I like: Malzahar Ziggs Swain Lissandra

All of which have tools to handle assassins, especially one whose engage is as telegraphed as Zed.

because taking item 3157 summoner 3 is unfair because he can build damage first.

rolls eyes

Reduce his MR and armor by ten, basically half his entire level 2-3 dps, lower his movement speed so he has to shadow AND flash to get away... and always useful in teamfights no matter what, helping your team deal more damage and lowering the enemy's damage...

Yeah, 70-410 damage is so worth that kill secure over a spell with so much utility and usefulness a support can get first blood with it.

I would also like to add real quick that his win rate is 48.62% http://champion.gg/statistics/#?roleSort=Middle&search=zed

I know win rate doesnt count for everything though
