Does Rod of Ages need buffs?

After the patch 8.4 (AP Itemization Rework) riot reworked 3 items to be 1º item on a lot of mages ( ) Rod of ages got "weaker", it is not competition to the mentioned items.

Riot tried a buff in PBE (+20 AP from the stacking passive) for a total of 120 instead of 100 AP but pulled it back.

Should Riot buff Rod of Ages?

Should riot try to bring back the AP PBE buff that they tried or give 10% cooldown reduction in the stacking passive (1% per stack) and increase its cost?

Rod of Ages is generally taken on battlemages like Swain, Aurelion Sol, and Ryze, AP champions who need to stay in the fight and at close/medium range in order to be effective and don't need the CDR as much as they need the extra health and mana.

I agree, there is a discrepancy between it and the Lost Chapter upgrades, but it's not something that can be done lightly. It's already incredibly gold efficient, even without any stacks.

Honestly, I think Luden's is the problem. It provides so much power right when you buy it. It gives you the most AP out of all the Lost Chapter upgrades, gives you an extra 100+ damage added onto your burst combo, AND increases your waveclear, not to mention the CDR and mana. You simply can't afford the slower power spike of Rod of Ages with Luden's in the game.

rod of ages needs not a buff but a nerf in stats by 1/4 or a 1/3 ( so it isnt a total stat stick) but adds in a new ability (active) when stacked that allows you to overcharge your abilities it costs hp/mana at the same time to use and increases your damage by 30 or 50% (or whatever number you think is acceptable.) to justify its risk/reward statement.

Riot does not want sustain. They want overly ridiculous burst. Ya know, skilless twitch-reflex moves that blows things up. And if they buff AP items then mages will be useful outside of pure burst or assassin types. Strategy and tactics are now bad to Riot. Only hyper-mobile bursting is good.
