No there are lots of good utility supports in the game. Aurelion just isn't one of them.

I personally have done trundle supp...it actually works very well. His passive alone gives him great lane stability, and punishment to the enemy.

Well, people just don't have much faith in things that they haven't seen before. Their argument is probably something along the lines of "If I haven't seen it that often, it's probably bad or doesn't work."

Realistically you picked this in Ranked. Not sure what you expected. Aurelion Sol provides very little to the support role. He's not a tank, he doesn't really have enough CC to peel, not to mention he's going to be auto pushing the lanes unless he stays back in an awkward position like the bush which he cant hide in. The reason other mages are taken support is because they can provide low cooldown, high base damage poke.
