Support solution

I have a potential idea for supports. Many are playing supports when they really would rather be carries. This is why we see so many off meta supports, that while sometimes are legit (I see successful Malz, Annie, Luxes do well) are typically picked because they don't want to support. Even worse than that, a player picks a support, then snags cs, snipes kills whenever available. Why do they do this? My opinion is that everyone wants to be the main character in a story. And most people feel that carries are the main character. The hero. It's often the most overused answer as a method to get out of bronze: "Carry your way out" My thought is the following: What if every kill a support gets becomes instead an assist? And the kill goes to the champ with the most damage input and any other damage input also get assists. This could work a lot like relic shield. Thoughts?

No thanks. Just because some supports (im looking at you zyra) tend to take kills often, that doesnt mean supports like janna, lulu, soraka etc who have a hard time getting kills shouldn't get credit when they actually do. This would also be problematic for things like Soraka top, where supports go into off-meta positions. There is no way to tell who is the support in a game. Even in draft or ranked people swap :/

  1. This is too massive of a change and doesn't really make sense mechanically. The person who scores the killing blow should be awarded the kill.
  2. You would punish ADCs, Snipers, and Assassin types who wait for a target to be low before trying to go for a kill shot - this is a critical game mechanic and MANY champions are balanced around it - your proposed change would drastically change this whole dynamic.
  3. Even if we acknowledge your problem with supports - your solution literally does nothing to help them become the 'main character in a story' as you so put it.

Sorry dude, till the buttah matches the pork - no dice.

As an avid Zyra support player, I'll pass on that one. I carry my carry 90% of games playing Zyra. Additionally supports are gold starved enough, let them have a kill now and again.

Umm I hate it. You are attempting to define a meta in which all gold must be funneled to someone who is not support. I do not agree with making that a game definition. That is a team strategic decision.

I understand your opinion on the support role as: The carries are supposed to be the main character. When a support takes a kill, they are disrupting that "intention". So, we fix the game by making supports unable to take kills.

This is basically meta enforcement. As a support player, I have a right to determine in game what my role is supposed to mean. this is between myself and the other players in the game, and we negotiate for the most part meaning they don't get to tell me off and i don't get to tell them off.

what you are proposing interrupts the core game mechanics that every player gets a say in how his character is played.

a question though: what do you think the support role should be about? I mean, what kinds of awesome and fun things are supports should, in your opinion, be doing in games?

Yes now even more people will dodge when they get autofilled support

This is a terrible idea. How does any of this fix supports? If you renamed the title to "how to stop people on the boards from complaining about mage supports and their damage" then you would be more accurate.

Taking kills away from supports would only accomplish limiting the available support players/champs in the support role. How is that healthy at all?
