Thresh's Lantern

I play Thresh myself, so please don't misinterpret this.

I've noticed for the past season or so that stepping on Thresh's lantern doesn't prevent enemies from taking it. I've had this work for and against me multiple times, to the point that I believe that it's functioning as intended. I thought that the entire way to fight this was to step on it. Did that get officially changed when they gave the lantern unit collision or something?
