Can we talk about turret plating?

Turret plating is one system that strikes me as fairly ridiculous. Why did Riot put it in the game if their goal is to reduce snowballs? You're not going to do much damage to a turret unless you're winning your lane, so turret plating seems like a system that exists purely to increase snowballing and allow you to press your advantage in lane. I personally think it needs to be dropped, or we need to take more steps to reduce snowballing in general.

Assuming you can shove a lane in while the winning laner has backed, you can take some even if you're losing vs them.

That's a big assumption. And shoving your lane leaves you open to a gank.

Not much of a gank when it's a 1v1.

Also you should have at least one ward if you're cowering under turret. Shove the wave, and it'll bounce back and deny your opponent experience.

very rarely does that happen. In fact many times, the jungler will rush your lane after you've died once and lost level to secure the gold from turret.

What was ment to reduce snowballing is that towers overall are alot more tanky till plateings fall off, which is fine. The big issue isn't plateings, but that the gold value on them is way to high. If it was cut on half, you'd still get rewarded for early agression, but the snowball wasn't as huge. Also, i think the bot tower should have Fortification aswell, the bullwark(towers gain armor+mr based on nearby opponents) mechannic already hurts 4man early pushes in a laneswap, so i don't think one side haveing a squishyer tower than the other is needed anymore.

Back them my Fiora just punch though the top lane. I always took the first turret within 10 mins good old days

Turret plating wasn't meant to reduce snowball, it was meant to strike a balance between lane bullies and scaling champions.

Turret plating gives a reward for taking part of a turret earlier on, which is usually going to go to early game champions who capitalize on their strength and take part of the turret. The increased health and defenses of the turret helps the late-game champion because it means their turret isn't lost the first time they die just because Darius has sheen.

Early game champion gets rewarded for pushing and making aggressive, risky strats to take the turret. Late game champion has more time to actually farm and scale up. As long as the reward is balanced, everybody's happy.

Because the goal was also to increase solo carry potential. Plates do that.

They had 2 goals: reduce team snowballing and increase solo carry potential.

Except it does the absolute opposite and REDUCES solo carry potential. Why? Simply because riot transformed league of legends into whatever you want to call the thing this "game" is now in a way that running down a lane and getting huge leads doesn't help you carry at all. You carry by roaming and grouping for objectives BUT turret plating actively punishes you for doing that because your opponent then just gets free gold again to get back into the game and the gold values are SO huge that it isn't necessarily offset by getting a kill on botlane you tp'd to from toplane. Not even a dragon might make up your opponent just getting 1k gold for free.

Team snowballing is a systemic issue not an issue you fix by pumping more gold into the economy but it is riot we are talking about so not much to expect there.

Does turret plating artifically prolong laning phase? Yes it does in some cases tho i still managed to take fb turret in 6-7 minutes. Nothing i would call a laning phase, considering the game starts at 2 minutes. Does it reduce snowball and/or help solo carry? No it doesn't it even does the opposite of it. A piss poor attempt to bandaid fix another bunch of poor gameplay changes while doing the absolute opposite BUT it "feels" better to play with it. It "feels" like yeah i got a bunch of gold for doing well so i'm able to carry now just that five minutes later you realize the rest of your map crashed and burned.

Being behind and getting gold off of turrets feels even better until you realize the enemy got RNG'd three infernals and it's ff from there anyways. Yes i exaggerate a bit but that's the reality in games. Saying you want to increase solo carry potential while then implementing these bounties and turret plating is a real hehexd move.

Let's not even talk about turret plating heavily favoring ranged champions to a point it gets ridiculous.

To be fair, ranged has always had an advantage on sieging any turret. Its one of the main reasons to have a marksman. Someone who can pound a turret, dragon, inhib from range. Of course the other reason is to pound out damage in teamfights, but taking objectives is right up there.

Well if you TP to bot lane and kill them, you take those plates too. It's a winning trade (kills + 3-4 plates vs 0 kills + 1-2 plates).

Typically your jungler will cover your lane anyway. But if you guys decided to 4/5 man bot then you just took the entire tower, which is worth more than the potential 3-4 plates your laner will get.

The bounty system is okay, it got a little out of hand with the absurd CS bounty numbers, but they've dialed it back. They no longer rubber band straight ahead you after taking your bounty.

As for your overall opinion that solo carry potential got decreased and team snowballing got increased, I very much disagree. The game right now really feels like every role has a major impact now (except top, but atleast we have more than before with plates). Games are usually decided by whichever team has the most winning players. It's not like previous seasons where it was like "Oh bot lane lost? GG ff at 20". Now it's like, "Oh bot lost? Oh well our top, jungle and mid are all doing well so ez game."

And at the same time, it really feels like if your team is at a disadvantage (5 players, so when 2 win 3 lose) but you're one of those winning players, you actually have a chance to turn things around for everyone else.

And how does turret plating favor ranged champs? I play top lane, so I'm very familiar with the advantages of ranged champions, but their ability to take plates has never been one of them in my experience.

Snowballing will never stop as long as someone beating their opponent heavily happens, and platings actually help the towers stay alive for longer.

No but the idea was split into parts.

Reward lanebullies, punish roaming, reward heavy pushing and give incentive for it, this to encourage early action but also keep said action in the lanes between the first two turrets for as long as possible.

If you still lose the first tower early then you goofed off really badly.
