Matchmaking worse than ever

With each new patch I am placed with players further and further from my ELO. No this is not my ELO rising, these match ups are beyond uncalled for. League of Legends is a game, designed for people to have fun. That is not to say it isn't competitive, for I feel the competition makes it fun.

When I joined the LoL community matchmaking was fantastic, as a beginner (and throughout my climb) I had been matched with hundreds of players, all very close in skill to my own. This made for a very pleasant experience, even the times I lost I felt it was a close match and a match worth playing.

Skill match ups are important to both aspects of LoL's appeal. Heavily unbalanced skill match ups make it no challenge for the higher skilled team (which may be amusing for a game or 2), and complete hell for the lesser skilled of the two teams. Being so out performed detracts greatly from the fun of the game. Furthermore it removes any incentive to play if only to be demolished again and again.

Teambuilder design idea: give players handicaps for being new to a champion or role. Current execution of this idea is negative. After a bot game for champion feel teambuilder matches me up against higher ELO players with mastery of their champion. I use teambuilder as a tool, to practice newer champions with the hope I can play against slightly less skilled players and build up to my own level and beyond.

This was the match up that was faced by myself and 4 others. Silver 3 - Gold 3 vs Gold 5 - Diamond 3

I should state my frustration is only with "Normal" game mode, thus far I have not encountered any extreme cases such as this in ranked solo q.

It's normals. The MMR is different in normals than ranked. If you rarely play ranked, your mmr in normals could be very different from your ranked mmr. But I'm guessing you might have actually known this because you cropped out the part where lolnexus tells you the average mmr of each team.

Yes I understand the ELO system is different for ranked vs normals but that doesn't take away from the problem. I did not edit this photo, this particular match was a blind pick with a friend (I don't play blind pick unless I'm playing with friends) and LolNexus doesn't calculate MMR for blind matches.
