plat 3 flex gets matched with silver 3?
I don't understand how riot's algorithms matched me (plat 3) with someone who was silver 3 in flex. Like I get no mmr algorithm is perfect but I think the gap is a bit ridiculous here.

i was in the same game as a bronze 1 and a plat 2.... ive seen pics of a bronze and diamond being in the same game... flex is pretty broken.
I think the mmr requirements for getting placed into whatever tier/divisions were rapidly changing over the first month or two (and perhaps still are), so it's possible that you're all in the same ballpark of mmr despite the significant flex rank gaps.
Flex premade sheninanigans really throw a curveball into trying to make sense of matchmaking though, since now you might still have the first point in play, but you've got a premade whose flex mmrs span like 100 MMR or something.
I'd like to think after a full season or so things will mostly shake out with the diamond skill people having diamond mmrs and diamond ranks, plat skill with plat mmr and plat ranks and so on, but for now it seems very possible that there are gold skill people with silver flex mmrs and plat flex ranks, depending on when exactly they did their flex placements.
