OP is asking what makes sion's laning phase so strong. He doesn't see it. Personally I agree, it's not overwhelming like Fiora Renekton Jayce

Sion has strong damage in the early game that would scare anyone, but come mid to late game, that damage falls off hard and you become basically a CC bot. His Q is allowed to do that damage in the first place because it's heavily telegraphed

Play Quinn into him. Its the funniest thing ever. As soon as he starts channeling his Q you just E into him and it cancels. Then proceed to proc your passive and destroy him while he runs off.

AD tank with large base values and endless scaling health that scales off of itself.

Also he's bad vs people with great reaction times. Usually you can begin charging Q on someone and they have to register first the indicator under them, then that they need to move, and then begin to move which is often too late. Plus his Q is unique in that it will always do damage. You can't escape it unless you pull a surprise mobility spell because he can release it as soon as you get to the edge of it. If he knocks you up, it's a free shield proc which does huge damage. If he slows you, he can slow you again and still hit you with the shield. The shield also allows him to ignore all trade damage he is supposed to take from minions and from you as he walks up to you, and after the rotation, you're usually in no position to continue fighting him so you run instead of trading back when the shield is popped.

Trades with a powerful Q early game. Has a pretty low mana cost and it is hard to dodge if you have no mobility. The enemy only sees the AoE as it is increasing so they have to react early if they want to dodge it. However most wont react early and wait for the AoE to actually show that it's over them. They try to dodge at this moment but once Sion releases Q it comes down almost instantly so they get hit.

Powerful Q with a deceiving amount of speed behind it. E helps him land Q and W helps him trade as well. All in all this makes his lane alright.

He has the worst late game of any champ XD

All this abilities take too long to cast. his passive becomes irrelevant, and cc qq
