Why is Bard's Ult the same range as Caitlyn's Ult Rank 2?

Bard ultimate has 2500 range, same as Cait's Lv2 Ult.

Why? He's a wondering support, Shouldn't his kit give him the mobility needed to get into a closer range to use his ult if he needs to?

Wasn't his main trade off of his kit, the fact that he has to leave his Carry by themselves?
