PSA: How to make the right call as a jungler (improve in just 3 short lessons!)

Dear community, does your team contain a jungle main? Does he camps the Ekko that is 0/3 by 10 minutes? Does he throw baron?

Then I'll give you and eveyone else 3 tips on how to improve your shot calling in solo queue.

Lesson 1: What lane to gank? This is the easiest question to answer, usually. -Has the enemy jungler not ganked this lane yet? -> Gank -Has the enemy jungler not successfully ganked this lane yet? -> Gank -Has the enemy jungler successfully ganked this lane? -> prioritize a lane you haven't ganked or successfully ganked. -Is the enemy laner too fed? -> Don't gank -Is the enemy jungler too fed? -> Ward and take objectives on the other side -Did your laner die 1v1/2v2 -> Don't gank

trust me, it's better to just left one or two players to the wolfs than trying desperately to hold them. This will get you killed, eventually your team killed and then you also lose the objectives.

Lesson 2: Engaging Baron: Learn what kind of contest you want to go for. There are 3 types of contests: 1: The one man contest: Usually the jungler just tries to get a steal 2: 5 man contest: The entire team goes in and tries to fight the enemy team while the baron is still alive/has just been killed. 3: No man contest: Do not go to the Baron pit.

Also learn what engaging call you make. There are 3 types of engages: 1: Baron Bait: Mostly clearing wards around and in the pit. Don't fight the baron directly, just try to make them think you do it and let them come. 2: Baron Kill: Killing the baron is priority. Do it when you know there's just the jungler contesting. 3: Team Kill: Aboarding Baron and pulling out of the pit to fight the enemy team. Usually a good idea if baron has more than 6k hp by the time the enemy closes in and you're leading.

-Are you behind and have limited/no vision on baron but know they do it? -> One man contest -Are you leading and have limited/no vision on baron but know they do it? -> 5 man contest -Are you behind and have full vision on baron and on the enemy team? -> Baron Kill -Are you even and have full vision on baron and on the enemy team? -> Baron Bait -Are you leading and have full vision on baron and on the enemy team? -> Team Kill>Baron Kill>Baron Bait

Lesson 3: Kill the carry or protect the carry? For the love of god, please remember this.

-Is your carry killing the enemy team faster than their carry killing your team? -> Protect your carry -Is the enemy carry killing your team faster than your carry killing their team? ->Kill their carry

Share this post with all the Jungle mains that still make the wrong calls and help to make the Rift a place with better decision making. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Hey no offense since I'm only a Platinum 3 JG main, but a lot of this advice can actually hurt your jungler and your team overall

Agree with some of this, but I don't like a lot of the ganking stuff.

Don't gank a lane that the enemy jungler has successfully ganked? This is the kind of logic that tilts me. I'm 2/2/0 and have been ganked 6 times, both of my deaths coming from that gank. So you shouldn't gank for me? I mean, I have two solo kills in lane and have survived 4/6 ganks.

Let's leave the completely obvious scenario above, and go to a less clear one. I'm 0/1/0 and have died to a gank. I've been ganked 3 times (lost flash, died, most recently survived and lost nothing but have lower health). I'm up 5-10cs (despite all those ganks). Enemy laner is pushing me under tower with his health advantage from the latest gank. Again, it should be clear that this is the best lane to gank - again I clearly know what I'm doing in this lane and my enemy laner has put themselves out there. Further they probably don't know what they're doing given that they're down CS despite having received 3 ganks already.

Don't gank a lane that died 1v1? I mean, there are hard counters. Or he could have had a disadvantage from a prior gank, then died 1v1 later. Or could just be someone that scales extremely well (or the player is just a poor laner but is in your elo because of a good late game).

Honestly, the ganking rules just seem silly to me. Figure out which lane is in the best position to be ganked (look for immobility combined with being extended / not having vision) and then gank that lane. If you figure out later that your laner in that lane is incompetent (i.e. doesn't help with the gank, misses an easy kill, etc...) then reprioritize. If you figure out later that the enemy laner is pretty good at surviving your ganks (e.g. keeps vision up) or can 1v2 outplay or something, then reprioritize. Ganks should be about what you think will work given the info.

Wow, the bottom bit is so obvious but I havent really learned this so much. Good post, obviously it's not 100% exactly what you should always do but it gives people some things to consider when making decisions.

Did your laner die 1v1/2v2 -> Don't gank

team score 0/4 @ 4:35 Welp, guess i'll just buy devourer and power farm for that late game carry. https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/691489504117395456/otX8rqQ8.jpg
