Seriously complaining about Aram (No, seriously)

I'm serious. I've actually got something to say about the All-random-all-mid game mode. It's the one with ice bridge, where like you're in a perpetual team fight - that game mode. Did I mention I was serious?

Aram has some problems. One of which is super critical, the others are just run of the mill "this makes the game less fun or not fun at all" problems.

Here's the short version of the usual problems:

  • Rng ruins you, & sometimes the enemy team
  • AoE ruins you
  • Connectivity ruins you
  • <This champion> ruins you
  • Either Teemo shrooms ruin you or Oracles ruins you; take your pick.
  • Everyone uses Dark Harvest

Those are all well and good, it's part of the fun of Aram. Well, maybe it's not the 'fun' of aram, but nobody plays this game expecting to smile. The big (and central) issue of aram is: who cares? It's aram. It's aram. It's aram. It's aram. Despite still being a competitive game, somehow your frustrations aren't supposed to exist. There's been a string of dc's recently, but who cares? Your almost-all-adc team gets demolished into oblivion by the all-in team you go up against? It's aram; fuck you. There's a clear stigma against genuine frustration on our "fun-only" game mode.

Allow me to set up my 2-pronged philosophy about the nature of competitive video games.

  1. A player who believes they have been cheated (either by entitlement or circumstance) will be frustrated, or angry. This can be compounded by personal pride, a bad starting disposition, or any other number of variables, but the first point remains.
  2. All players have a right to be frustrated, and to voice those frustrations. They may be wrong, they may be biased, they may even be deflecting personal issues by encoding them in forum posts that drag on just a little too long and get self-referential, but all players have a right to voice those frustrations.

This game mode may not assign borders, or have a championship designated to it, but it still has a player base. Hopefully, my whining and moaning will help to make that base seem a little more serious.

Also, if you see through this post as a way for me to let off steam by bitching, you're totally wrong. I would never do something like that.
