What noob mistakes did you make starting out?

Just wanted to get some other players experiences when they first started the game.

For me personally I started whatever season yasuo came out and was the first champ that I actually bought, because I mean he was a badass swordsman/samurai dude. But for the life of me I could not figure how his ult worked besides reading it multiple times. (Mind you this is like my third game of league ever) and also how his q stacking worked until a few games.

Also one of friends recommended that I try out Lee sin as a starting champion. Yeah I'm pretty sure he was trolling me. But I did and started to learn jungle. Now this was before you could upgrade your jungle item and smite champions so I would run to gank a lane and spam my smite button on enemy champions trying to figure out why it wasn't working and not doing like 600 damage to them. Took me reading it a few times to finally figure it out that champions are indeed not monsters lol.

And I think the last facepalm I did was I was adc one game because all the other roles were called. Me having no idea what an adc was I googled it really quick and best answer I got was a champion that does attack damage. So I was like okay too easy, and locked in tryndamdere. You can imagine how that leaning phase went.

Anyways I think that's about it until I can think of anymore, you all have similar experiences or [removed by moderation] ? Lol

Built Triforce on everyone because it was the most expensive item and was therefore the best.

DuskDaUmbreon6/19/2019, 3:11:29 PM9 votes

Using heal as soon as healing wasn't wasted from it, so that it'd be up again sooner.

Never using my ultimate because I might need it later.

Never building item component because I thought it would still cost full gold

I got executed to krugs a lot.

Jimmy Rustles6/19/2019, 3:58:42 PM4 votes

I always played support cuz cs sounded like a pain but I never bought any wards besides sightstone

And when I started solo laning, my buddy convinced me that Sion was pure AP so I'd rush RoA and what not every single game and get flamed

Axxuka6/19/2019, 3:16:29 PM4 votes

Playing Leona top because I thought she was a Melee solo laner.

Same for Amumu. It was my first 2 games ever, xerath just got released.

Don't use autism to describe stupidity or ignorance please.

I became convinced that the most powerful strategy was to build lifesteal on champions who came with lifesteal in their kits. After all, wouldn't I always win fights if I healed more than they did?

My builds on Olaf and Warwick were horrible. BotRK, Bloodthirster, Ravenous Hydra, and Spirit Visage were my first four items every single game.

Jaspers6/19/2019, 4:11:08 PM3 votes

Attack speed = more attacks = more damage.

So I bought attack speed on everyone. Only played Co-op VS AI back then but still.

Being an RPG player prior to discovering League, i thought i was supposed to dress up my champion with armor and weapons to make them better. MissFortune item 1029 item 1001 item 1001 item 3145 item 3145 was a legitimate Dominion build.

Also, item 3075 Ashe and rush item 3065 on Ashe, because "if you have more health you live longer". Ah, the innocent 2012 times.

crippler386/20/2019, 9:09:52 AM2 votes

Blade of the Ruined King on Garen because he had a sword.

Building one item multiple times.

Played roaming Teemo when there was a big streamer on the other team.

ContDeCaterinca16/19/2019, 3:13:32 PM2 votes

Literally using all my abilities the moment they came off cooldown( I was playing Morgana support at that time). Just throwing them onto the battlefield randomly.

FOR JUSTICE6/19/2019, 4:23:38 PM2 votes
  • Casually using heal just cause.

  • "Recalling heals me and gives me more mana" (cancels it repeatedly not knowing I have to be on fountain)

  • We have home guard so we must be losing

inuitmailman6/19/2019, 10:47:45 PM2 votes

Also used to take smite to every lane cuz smiting minions was easy compared to last hitting for me😂😂😂

xAcidik6/20/2019, 12:45:02 AM2 votes

I didn't know the difference between AP and AD and built Black Cleaver on Brand.

ChaosReyn6/20/2019, 12:48:12 AM2 votes

Friend of mine at one point thought MF ult only shot one line of bullets - didn't realize it was a channel effect until he was almost summoner lv 10.

Mine was pretty much just picking the most absolutely terrible fights, all the time. People talk about Lee Syndrome...but I didn't have it on Lee. I had it on EVERYONE. No real concept of where I needed to be/what I needed to do if I wasn't attacking the enemy.

Legit, "I AM FUCKING LEONA! I WILL GO IN ON WHOEVER I WANT, AND YOU PEOPLE NEED TO HELP ME!"

My friend's plat 3 friend: "GDI, YOU'RE INTING INTO 1V4S!"

"THEN GET HERE!"

My friend: "Dude, seriously, we're mid, and you're running into the enemy jungle after a full hp tank and chasing him into a 1v4...you're not even warding."

". . .I AM FUCKING LEONA - "

I wanted my abilities to hit harder so I stacked as much ability power as possible. No matter the champion, I saw damage as optional if you wanted to play around using regular attacks but I figured using abilities at a distance would be the better option.

Lapis6/20/2019, 2:19:58 PM1 votes

Taking minions as support. "But we gotta take the tower so I should get the minions out of the way, right?"

Daddy Ants6/20/2019, 2:31:52 PM1 votes

I didn't understand a champions interaction with each stat.

I was building Lifesteal on champions like Annie and AP on champions like Ashe.

Ginger9766/20/2019, 2:45:36 PM1 votes

Ha....I had the same exact one you did. I can clearly remember a moment when I am playing Yi in season 1 and trying like hell to smite the enemy team.

Paletongue6/20/2019, 3:25:25 PM1 votes

I thought I had to have every item component in my inventory before I could upgrade it, and often ended games with tons of extra gold but low cost items.

Only two inventory slots left? Guess I can't get Trinity Force cause I have no space for Phage..

shicky976/20/2019, 3:53:37 PM1 votes

Not me, but my friend who I introduced to the game. I kept trying to convince him to buy boots, but he always refused saying, "But they don't give me more damage."

Modl Ryden l6/20/2019, 3:55:06 PM1 votes

Attack speed was the best stat on any champ, item 3046 item 3046 item 3046 .

I had only played Ashe and Ezreal and had no idea what to build when I had to fill mid and play Malzahar or Anivia :(

jocomotion6/20/2019, 4:17:17 PM1 votes

Ahem. Ashe item 3075

That is all.

blademaster4326/20/2019, 4:45:16 PM1 votes

I mean when i started league, I used to love statik shivv as an item.Idk but the shock effect was so cool for me(mind you this was in 2013).So I started building it on Every.Single.Champion.Soraka?Buils statik shivv.Lux?Build statik shivv?Kappadin?Build the shivv. So yeah xd.I didnt get flamed during that time (normal blinds) but later i realized how dumb I was xd

Novae Idyllica6/21/2019, 12:55:58 AM1 votes

Didn't realize I could move the camera with the screen unlocked so I just played with a locked screen until nearly a year of very casual playing in; way too late to fix that mistake now. Also I would buy like three sets of base boots because I thought they stacked.

miightofdemacia6/20/2019, 5:52:46 PM1 votes

The biggest noob mistake was building only a specific way because my champion had to build that way rather than build what I need to best fit scenario. I definitely needed ravenous hydra rather than sunfire rush on garen so I can kill adcs :P kidding

No but seriously, when I first started out, I would put points all over the place when leveling up skills. I got told later by a friend that I should max out spells because it's stronger and eversince then, I would do that in other games outside of league as well.

xxxliltrash 6/20/2019, 7:10:23 PM1 votes

play league

Starving Artist6/20/2019, 8:44:03 PM1 votes

I would always level up my abilities evenly, didn't buy runes for almost a year after I started playing, and I would see the CD on my R and decide it was not worth it to level it up over my other abilities.

Boy was I something else back in the day, crazy nostalgia trip here.

PopcornBunni6/20/2019, 8:57:46 PM1 votes

Only one that comes to mind is avoiding buying any mana items on manaless champions because "it's just gold gone to waste."

item 3078 item 3100 specifically.

we havent met6/21/2019, 1:31:14 AM1 votes

This is something that haunts me and will for the rest of my league career, In season 5 I was against zed as syndra and I thought "oh armor will negate his dmg!" Builds thornmail The stuff of horrors honestly.

Clicking abilities to use them.

BigFBear6/20/2019, 2:17:43 PM1 votes

Using flash to be faster back on lane or at jungle camps
