Mordekaiser has gone 936 days without a direct change, behind only Zilean by 77 days.

Seeing the post about Mordekaiser mains "self-victimizing" and "whining" kinda pissed me off, so I went and checked how long it's been since morde was touched and how many champions had gone as long or longer without direct changes. Turns out it was 1.

6.1 for Mordekaiser and 5.21 for Zilean.

This is excluding a small effect added to Zilean's passive in 5.23, bug-fixes, and broad brush patches like 8.9 (mana changes), 8.3 (base HP cleanup), 7.22 (Runes Reforged compensation), etc.

His ult AI was slightly improved in 6.16 which would put a few more champions ahead of him, but I don't consider that a real change considering no actual stats were altered and his ult is still nearly impossible to control.

To add to that, almost all of his "crutches" for lack of a better word, have been severely gimped or removed. A lot of the reason he was good in season 6 was Rylais, which was completely gutted. A lot of the reason he was good in season 7 was SRS, DFT, Luden's, and Liandry's. SRS was severely nerfed in the form of Phase Rush, DFT was removed, Luden's was changed into a mana item, and while the reddit circlejerk would have you believe Liandry's is a god tier item on mordekaiser, in reality it's just not as good as the previous version due to the lack of magic pen, meaning most high-elo morde mains don't even build it until 3rd or 4th item. In pre-season 8 he was able to use Aery pretty well, but it was nerfed and is now being nerfed again, and his patch 7.22 base stat compensation from runes reforged of 5 armor, 5 base HP, and 5 HP growth was significantly lower than most other champions, especially considering how much power he lost by SRS being gutted and DFT being removed. In season 8 he was able to use Banner as a band-aid in top and mid since he couldn't stomp lane-phase as hard without SRS, and Shurelya's mid lane to exert more pressure due to his severe lack of mobility, but Banner was removed and Shurelya's was made into a mana item.

It doesn't seem to be getting any better either. With each new release/rework more and more mobility, cc, and crazy abilities are added, making the 325 movespeed mobility-less and CC-less champion that is Mordekaiser worse and worse to play.

Edit - Clarified some things.

Mordekaiser is in a terrible place and he needs to be buffed. 936 days is too long for a champion that is so obviously suffering to the point that even people who aren't mains understand why he's weak. I can't imagine a meta in which some form of Zilean would ever be bad to play, but Mordekaiser simply doesn't have that consistent of a kit. Item changes constantly weaken him and he never gets and compensation buffs.

Posts like these are how Riot Aatrox's your champion. I'm not opposed to it, but don't be grumpy when it happens.

Mordekaiser has almost 0 agency. Getting ahead as Morde is done 1 of 2 ways, your lane opponent(s) int into you when you're strong, or your team gets good bot priority early so you can secure dragon. I'm fine with Aatrox'ing him if it means he gets real and consistent tools to open up the game.

Trox was about the exact same in strengths and weaknesses, except he traded the dragon and burst for a "eh" gap closer and dps. Only thing is that right when Trox was confirmed as the next update, itemization favored him HEAVILY and people started crying for Riot to cancel it or some shit.

I'm not saying "Keep the pizza feet", but begging for changes after changes is how Trox changed so heavily.

Pre-rework Aatrox had mobility, cc, and scaling. Morde has none of those. I'm not saying Aatrox was in a good spot balance-wise, but in terms of his agency and ability to solo-carry the game, he just had significantly more tools than Morde does.

I already told you this, so why are you telling me this? He scaled off of Rageblade and he had a "meh" gap closer. The only reason he seemed better was because the last few weeks of his time here favored him. His kit was still shit and still subject to either being way too good or way too not good.

Morde is strong as hell and should not be changed!!! I love him and I played him in plat, and he's in a good position. If you cannot play around the fact that he's slow and lack CC, then pick another champ. Morde is slow and lack CC, but makes up for it in incredible bloody damage and potential 6V4. that's what he is, and that's what he should be.

Watch pro morde players. I have often came out 2 for 0 when enemy ganks my lane, since I'm able to single-handedly kill them both with superior damage.

Morde is the new old Yorick, in that Riot will continue to ignore him and keep him in the gutter until his eventual rework. His current kit is such that when he's strong, he's one of the most oppressive champions in the game, and offers little mechanical counterplay for the opponent. Riot will never, ever buff him in his current state, or even acknowledge his existence. Similar to how old Yorick was completely ignored and even removed from the free champion rotation because of how frustrating he was to play against.
