Getting to Gold

Ok so, the season just reset for league.i managed to get silver 3 last season and i just finished my placements and got bronze lll. I want to attempt for gold. I have no trouble getting to silver 5 from there to silver 3 was a hard climb. does anyone have any suggestions on who to play, tips to do, and overall just be a better player and get to Gold?
