Both are cancer though personally if I am going mid Kassadin is the one I'll ban.
akali doesn't have mana problems either
I have quite a bit of experience with Kassadin, so maybe I can help you find his counterplay. I'll mostly be going through a list of strategies or champions that I have seen be quite effective against me when I'm playing him.
Buy a
early game, it pretty much guarantees that he can't burst you hard enough that you cant retalliate and hit him harder than he hit you. It will build into
so it will come in handy later anyway.
Do not be afraid to hit him back, I see so many people just run away when I Riftwalk at them and Use Null Sphere and Force Pulse. Until
hits level 16, his most vulnerable point is when he has just riftwalked toward you. Once he has used his combo to trade or initiate on you, you can either retaliate immediately (Thanks to his lack of a silence) or wait for his magic shield to go down and hit him then for even more damage.
For Obvious reasons, AD midlaners are quite effective against Kassadin, mostly because his 15% magic damage reduction passive and magic damage shield doesn't help him at all in these matchups.
Keep in mind that it is not possible for Kassadin to 100-0 you early-mid game if he is not already ahead by quite a large margin, especially if you have built Magic Resist to counter him. If you don't do anything reckless in lane then he should not be far enough ahead to be solo-killing you in lane.
His waveclear is pretty bad until he has gotten a few items and ranked up Force pulse, so if you're playing someone with good waveclear, try to push him to tower as much as you can while watching out for his jungler. Forcing him to farm under his turret not only keeps him from roaming to get ahead, but is also likely to make him miss CS, which will put you ahead of him in terms of gold.
There's not much more to say. The real counterplay to Kassadin is knowing that he may be able to get to you, but in the majority of midlane matchups, your damage will be stronger than his. Take barrier or exhaust or build MR if you have to, but as long as you can endure his initial burst and not panic, you will be able to win trades and fights with him.
Disclaimer -- Not all of these tips apply to a hyper-lategame Kassadin. If the game has gone to the point of 5+ items, he can and should be strong enough to kill you if you're a squishy mage or ADC that doesn't have someone to peel for you. That has always been his strongest point, and asking for nerfs to his lategame hypercarry status would be essentially asking for the removal of the only thing that makes him a better pick than other assassin-y mages like

Sorry for the wall of text; I hope I helped some people understand Kassadin's weaknesses better.
The counterplay to both of them is you know exactly which way they're going to go, akali more so than Kass. Sure if you're a mage, Kass's silence might be an issue, but really you should be ready for that.
bro. akali is not broken in anyway shape or form. shes been trashed on ever since the assassin update last season, and was given the smallest buff in riot history with a .1 ap ratio that is never used in team fights.
