Can Draven not use his Axes when he attacks plants?

This seems to be annoying since if you hit the blast cone and are in the radius you're unable to get your axe since the fall animation is further then where your axe will land and slower. Meaning that if you use the blast cone as Draven you have to give up your damage.

The other plants have the same problem but to a smaller degree since they kind of make you move to an awkward position when you use them.
