Itemizing vs Veigar

I'm a Ahri main and I have a huge problem playing vs Veigar. I am essentially locked out of building high AP damage items, I find myself being forced to build MR Items Merc Treads is a must, then I have to build and most likely too. This allows me to survive Vegiar's burst up for awhile but my damage really drops off as a result, I can't burst people down at all anymore, Even if I could I can't actually go in because Vegiar will just put up his Event Horizon, and instantly kill everyone stuck inside.

Now I beileve Veigar needs to be nerfed, but until that happens I gotta deal with it, but what do I do? Do I build MR and just hope to poke and surivive? or do I just build full AP with Death Cap, Luden's, Zhonyas and just hope to god I get a kill or two before he kills me with one R?

U dont really need all those. Cleanse summoner and Zhonyas are enough. Basically if he manages somehow to stun you, although he shouldnt be able with your Q speed, you can remove stun with cleanse, then if he ultis Zhonya. He will drop W right on top of u, so u have to quickly move with R, charm him and nuke him. Its more of a skill matchup than certain champion being op. Whoever outplays other better wins.

As a sometimes Veigar player and sometimes Ahri, a few things. One, don't walk into the cage. This should be obvious, but I will repeat. You see those wall indicators? Don't stand on those, and don't walk into those. Second, rush a Zhonyas. He might drop his cage, but with Zhonyas you can just press 1 (or whatever key you have it on) whenever you see his R animation. This will destroy his R (and likely his WQ), getting rid of his entire combo. Additionally, Veigar normally does not build many (if any) defence items, meaning if you can survive RQ (or zhonyas it) you can just RWEQRRQ Veigar before he can retreat or do anything else.

if i were ahri up against veigar, i would go

item 3174 -> item 3020 -> item 3116 -> item 3089 -> item 3135 -> filler generally a ludens or maybe a liandry. banshees or GA for sure if hes ahead of me.

grail is more than enough to keep him out of lane (assuming you can land your Q's) and the MR is plenty to handle his full kit and avoid getting 100-0'd without the junglers help (otherwise its a standard gank, and it didn't matter that he was veigar). the rylias ensures if you hit him hes going to die in the mid game, and the health helps tremendously in a 1v1 against him. theres no way for him to kill you at this point in the game.

after that its going to be late game, at which point you charm him, and you burst him, you do not get stunned/caught. otherwise he deserves to win, that is his win condition, stun you. if you are getting caught by it repeatedly then somethings up and you need to look at yourself.

overall, you charm him first, he dies, he stuns you, you die. problem? you're both squishy.

If you are worried about not building high AP items because of the scaling Veigar gets from the enemy's AP, you could try building more Magic Penetration. I know it's not a perfect fit but it allows you do more damage without assisting Veigar's scaling.

ok back on topic, I'm not sold myself on relying on Cleanse, but what MR items (if any) would you believe is sufficient in this matchup? Should I make item 3157 my priority over item 3285 ? also what about item 3089 is this a item I should save for late game or avoid altogether?
