im really sorry if this is in the wrong boards but i was curious which item combinations fully counter each of the items

i think for armor and dmg usually it is something to do with attack speed since it has to be a distance champ instead of close combat

but for magi resist isnt it fully easy to counter with dmg and magi resist as well as magi pen?

i noticed no one ever builds magi pen since no one ever gets magic resist and just get health (which i did in the last game) so i was curious if there was any comments on magic resist and health

if it is true that magic resist has to go with health to fully counter ap then i understand

i was just curious if there was a bug since

  1. i have bought magi pen runes/items and it is never used so i was wondering when they will ever be used
  2. if i can just full tank health then why do we even need magi resist?
  3. if we only need magi resist why do we even need health?

i am just curious since my last game i built full health in my masteries and items and it didnt counter ap but i have seen it done in places so i was just hoping for some clarification

if anyone has any comments on how to fully tank health vs magi resist vs magi pen please leave a comment

i know there are a few combinations that work (usually will not work against a 1v5 i know) but i have seen full tank builds done before so i was just rather curious if that was just scripts or there was actually a possibility of doing it without scripting

i know dmg is different since there are more dmg/crit items than there are ap items but tbh i think there are more counter items to ap than there are offense so i was curious if it was scripts or there is actually a possibility without having to script

here is a link i uploaded to photobucket in case the actual riot link doesnt work apologies for the difficulty but i think someone is trying to change their names or hack my accounts so i apologize to anyone who wants to actually see

You asked some really good questions! Ok, here's a breakdown:

i think for armor and dmg usually it is something to do with attack speed since it has to be a distance champ instead of close combat

Armor and dmg can both be countered with attack speed, but close combat champs should try to build life on hit , like Cull. Distance champs should build attack armor (lethality) to counter attack speed.

i noticed no one ever builds magi pen since no one ever gets magic resist and just get health (which i did in the last game) so i was curious if there was any comments on magic resist and health

Magi pen is there in case someone accidentally buys magic resist instead of health. Magic resist is too OP on its own so it needs a counter. Health counters AP and magipen so you should always buy it (as long as you have enough attack speed per minute).

if it is true that magic resist has to go with health to fully counter ap then i understand

Yes! You understand. Health resist counters magic health.

if anyone has any comments on how to fully tank health vs magi resist vs magi pen please leave a comment

You should always start with magi pen (after Cull) before buying magic speed. After that buy health and buy health pen (per second).

i know there are a few combinations that work (usually will not work against a 1v5 i know) but i have seen full tank builds done before so i was just rather curious if that was just scripts or there was actually a possibility of doing it without scripting

These are scripts. Full tank builds should always be able to handle 1v5 but the scripts get overwhelmed with 5 players attacking. Make sure you always have enough gold per penetration speed before going tank.

i know dmg is different since there are more dmg/crit items than there are ap items but tbh i think there are more counter items to ap than there are offense so i was curious if it was scripts or there is actually a possibility without having to script

It is possible to counter dmg/crit without scripts. The trick is to stack health per mana in the early game, and then go for penetration per hour in the later game.

I'm so sorry to hear that! Luckily they must not have got you because I can see the screen shot. Your opponents were definitely scripting, your statikk shiv build with health pots should have countered.

I hope this help!!

tbh i just started really getting into league recently so i understand if magic pen or resist use to be hella strong since i recently saw s1 lux ult and omg haha that is outta control haha tbh i never read the items individually ahha i just click the thing that riot has set up already or i will type it into the search bar and then find out the details since sometimes i dont actually understand everything about the item in the description haah the purple shiny sword with magi/armor pen is one of them haha it doesnt actually say it is armor/magi pen but when you search it up in the search bar it works haha im not complaining ahah i actually really like the way it is coded because it shows that i actually put time into this game to figure out the details another thing is i usually play alone like without any friends and stuff so tbh i really enjoy being able to discuss these things on board without being harassed mid game and having a huge arguement about who is wrong and then idk...i feel like item/champ discussions just never work in game haha so i really apprecviate you not throwing stuff around and actually have a civil conversation/discussion about items

the thing about tanks is that i noticed riot nerfed illaoi and shyv a lot since i guess the whole 1v5 thing got super abused haha so tbh i dont think it is bad since riot does super emphasize teamwork so tbh im not suprised if tanks can no longer 1v5 and can only choose betwen full health or full dmg haha like full top build vs full jg build if that makes sense.....cause i know full jg cannot ever go full tank since they have to gank so yeah....but top can kinda go more tank than jg can but idk i play fill so i have short ques haha so tbh i am not a pro in any lane especially so i apologize for anything i get wrong about the jg/top builds

no thank you for having a civil dicussion with me about this subject haha i really appreaciate it haha i have noticed during game is just not the place or time so tbh i was hoping someone would have some knowledge about these things and tbh riot support always suggests the boards so thank you for actually existing haha i hope things actually made sense since it hard to keep going back and forth so i hope i answered everything and if not im sorry but i will try to answer them if you post/comment again about the question/comment i missed ^-^

I have been playing League of Legends at a high level (almost Plat) for roughly 5-8 months now and can confirm most of what Boviticus said is true.

No item gives a bigger return on capital investment than Cull, so it would be wise to work that into as many builds as possible if you want to maximize your Player-Gold Index Value, which is one of the most important stats of any high skilled player.

Armor reduces the amount of Physical Damage dealt to a target, but Armor doesn't have any effect on Attack Speed, so Attack Speed is the universally agreed upon counter to Armor.

It's a little different for Magic Resist, though. Unlike auto attacks, spells cost Mana, and since your spells will be doing less damage against Magic Resist, you will find yourself casting more spells to kill a target with Magic Resist, which means Magic resist will cause you to run out of Mana very quickly against Magic Resist, which means if someone is stacking Magic Resist, Mana and Mana Regen are great stats to get against someone stacking Magic Resist.

Another great trick is to start with one type of damage (let's say AD) so that the enemy buys a lot of Armor to counter you. Once they fully commit to building Armor, you quickly switch to AP since they won't have any Magic Resist. Your spells will do maximum damage and catch your opponent by surprise. Strategies like this are used in many other esports as well as regular sports (soccer, golf, etc).

Let me know if you have any more questions!

there use to be another item in the "gold income" but riot took that away a few patches ago haha i would play co op and then try to stack all crit gold items and then the system caps you haha cause i would buy all of it and then sell all of it since the max deduction for selling is less than 1k haha

tbh i think it is very hard to fully counter a 1v5 in any lane after the nerfs these few patches haha i use to be able to 1v5 but not saying i win the lanes since when anyone runs down lanes it is over haha just saying being able to have tank sivir/ashe/soraka it would buy me some time so it was a lot easier when i would have other people who wouldnt feed their lane but tbh at the same time i am so use to playing solo every lane that it was hard to lane with other people since it is hard to know what they plan on doing so it was hard to back them up in a teamfight since i play fill i usually have to play all roles and then i try to tank when im adc haha so tbh the nerfs really made it harder and made me focus more on the role i was playing and i do practice a lot in co op before i play since i guess i play the game so much i think it is always unfair when enemy team throws....especially when i know how it feels.....
