Is Sett a bad Champion, outside of being a counter to certain comps or lanes?

Without commenting on his stats (which are always subject to change, like -5 movement speed on irelia) as we aren't familiar with Sett's power levels yet, it can seem as though his W is a great tool for trades. However, according to the wiki he doesn't become unstoppable and is subject to being crowd controlled. I assume this means that many champions can just stun Sett and stop him from dealing his W damage, which isn't small after long trades. His ult gives a 99% slow for 1.5 seconds (as well as tons of dmg) but it seems that his kit doesn't offer much combat potential other than max % hp, instead seeming like a more stat reliant champion such as mordekaiser. So does he just lose in lane to all the other juggernauts? Is his w interrupted by Garen Q? (I assume so) Whilst I can see him doing really well against tanks such as ornn, as well as people that have no on demand stuns or knockups such as Tryndamere/Akali/Teemo/Vlad, I imagine that he would struggle against more prominent juggernauts and bruisers e.g Renekton Kled Mordekaiser Darius.

He's going to be really bad compared to other simple champions due to the fact that his W is so easy to play around: Go behind/Stun/Knockup can be accomplished fairly easily considering that Sion already exists (so people are used to playing against such abilities) along with the high mobility of many top laners. His sidelane is also quite meh as he is quite easy to kill in a 2v1 compared to darius who can turn on you with disgustingly high damage, or garen who can just run away easily and regen. And before you say that his teamfight is good - well duh, otherwise he'd be worse than pre rework urgot, remember that illaoi isn't a good champion, but has basically all the same strengths and weaknesses other than illaoi having higher 2v1 potential, being a larger damage threat, and sett having slightly more cc.

I may be completely wrong about this and find him outdueling mordekaiser and darius in sidelanes while also being a bigger teamfight threat than kennen a few days later when people start getting a hang of him, but until then, I probably won't change my opinion of his kit being bad - it's like he's designed for a fighting game rather than a juggernaunt for league.

Disclaimer: I do not own Sett, nor have I deeply investigated on PBE videos regarding details of his abilities

Def agree he was probably made for Project F more than for League but I feel like he's going to be a strong juggernaut and an answer for if one opponent ends up getting fed, Sett gives your team a way to stay competitive. If he gets into your backline and gets an AoE stun it can be deadly even for a team pretty far ahead of Setts

Give it some time. People said Kaisa was a dumpster fire on release and look at her now.

He's garen with less kill pressure. Still gonna play the fuck out of him.

As someone who is preparing to become a Sett main, I’ve played quite a lot of matches using him on PBE. From my experience I have never once had my W canceled. In-fact, I haven’t tested it yet, there’s a good chance pulling/displacing him moves the hit box as well.

He has a small speed boost and an ult, those are his only gap closers. The longer you fight him the tougher he is. Id imagine anyone that can hit and run will destroy him. Like Quinn for example. Hes pretty subject to poke.

Its kind of funny because the OG face puncher Vi can give him a hard time. You can Q through him so his W misses, you can ult him the same as he ults you. You peel his armor and Mr as you fight with Vi's passive (and she gets shields). Especially if shes building a BC. And some champs like Fiora and Jax, timing their abilities correctly could negate all that saved up power.

I find it funny because they are trying to get away from the 'simple' champs like Tryn, with champions like Aphelios, then, they reliase this guy who seems super straight forward and kind of boring.

Kite him, hit and run. And yeah he can be weak. Hes the first champion in a very long time since release / rework that I am not perma banning him. Hell, Garen is still super annoying its just people move on to the next 'best' thing. Hes good for dropping a tank in the back line however. He SEEMS more imposing because of all the flashy reworks and champs with flashy multi attacks like Kai Sa, Aphelios even Pantheon is flashy now, so he SEEMS more imposing and brutish.

Isn’t he basically Vi reimagined? Is Vi a good champion? She’s ok but not great.

Weird take...but ok.

I totally expect him to be a very good teamfighter (one of the best) as well as a decent split pusher when ahead.

His ult is extremely valuable in teamfights. So is his E.

His W punishes enemies for focusing him, he has insane scaling with AD/HP which automatically makes him a better tank than other actual tanks who have to rely on armor/mr. lol You compare him to Sion but Sett's shield is way stronger, his W can't be interrupted and it's much faster than Sions Q, it's not easy to play around because he can hold on to it and just bash you with his auto resets while filling up his Grit from your attacks. Sion wouldn't be able to do that, he has no consistent damage. Also you can avoid the true damage line but the bigger physical damage AOE can still hurt a lot, it's the same raw damage just not "true", so if you don't stack armor, it will hurt too.

His only real weakness seems to be long range poke and short trades where he can't trade back and also can't extend the trade. (extend meaning pulling you back with E for example to stop your disengage).

To me it seems like Sett got the best from all bruisers and juggernauts. He is also the first AD champion capable of abusing item 3193 for MORE true damage like Chogath.

I can already taste the salt that will spill out once people have to actually play against him.

how can you players judge a champion that ain't even out yet (pbe don't count)

RyzeRework1/13/2020, 2:26:20 PM1 votes

Hes for sure going to a strong splitpusher but for his matchups hes ganna do better vs tanks and juggernauts and prolly lose towards fighters

Popperofski1/14/2020, 8:39:54 PM1 votes

Sett literally takes no damage in melee matchups. Nerf his ridiculous shield spam since he can buiild full damage and be the best tank in the game

Guess we'll find out tomorrow when he's released.

Honestly, after a game as garen vsing this so called 'certain counter' pick, i discovered some of the mechanics of this champion.

  1. His auto attacks are double attacks, which means he procs conqueror at an absurd rate.
  2. His W does insane damage with great survivability added to his roaster, not to mention the middle of it does true damage.
  3. His ultimate is stupid as he is sort of untargetable during leap and does a shit ton of damage and slows all people around landing point.
  4. His E does fuck all. (one of his down side)

So in conclusion, i wouldnt call this champion useless, he is pretty strong against champion that has little to no cc, does well against id say 50% of his ranged match up as well due to his insane EW combo damage. Give him some time until people at the higher ups worked out a meta for him.
