Aatrox info/advice

I'm not a pro player by any means but I've gotten into league a lot more in the past year. I keep finding myself going back to Aatrox, not that there aren't other champions I like just that he is my favorite. I have heard from a lot of my friends and research that he is not worth playing because he hasn't been touched in so long. I am very drawn to his play style and I have tried the champs that play similar. I just wanted to know if anyone had some info on Aatrox if he was getting touched in the near future or should I disregard all this and main him anyways?
