Play some bot games. People in there are generally nicer and more relaxed. Convince a few to join ARAM, make friends there. Then you can take people from both groups you met in those arenas and enter normals. But bot players are generally the nicest people in the community. They may not be the greatest players but they are the most enjoyable to be around in my experience.
