@Riot Let's meditate over Master Yi
As of right now I understand that Riot is implementing changes for Devourer and Rageblade along with Sterak's not stacking with Maw. However, assuming these changes don't change much of what Master Yi should and should not be doing, I have come with a compromise with similar theoretical applications of what Riot was trying to do before.
Since Season 6 started, Master Yi for the past patches has always gone for on hit damage into tank. It is very hard to mitigate how effective he is. It sometimes becomes a hassle to CC him and burst him down. The way his kit works is that in most cases he will press R>E and gap close with your Q. Unfortunately smart Yi's, which I feel like people have come to understand how to utilize to full effectiveness, have understood the profit of using Q at the right time to dodge targeted and or skillshot reliant hard CC despite it being buggy sometimes. He works like a fighter but in reality he just cleans up really good after everyone has blown their CD's during your alpha or Meditate. Or who knows maybe they have other champs who are also in need of focusing down. Doesn't matter if Yi goes in and dies, he tanked enough along with the pressure he exerts from doing so much damage. Yi's team will probably win that team fight. The Damage to tank Ratio is not healthy especially if you have a gap closer and the ability to not being able to be kited. Death is the best CC. But it get's quite hard to do so when you get free stats on top of what you are already building.
I don't mind having an on hit damage Master Yi but my main focus of today is to talk about his meditate. His W is a really good one point wonder for the early game since it will give more damage reduction than exhaust will. Yes you may be vulnerable, but the purpose of the discussion is to ask if the damage reduction from Meditate should be useful when he is already building tanky as a way to mitigate damage? So my proposal is in similar thoughts aligned with the past nerf to his E. Having Yi's damage only be rewarding if he builds AD was a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, the build still has enough damage output that the latest change didn't really matter.
If you put one and one together, you would have already guessed that I am proposing to lower the of base % amount of damage reduction Yi's meditate provides and make it scale with AD in order to weaken the effectiveness and frustration that the build causes in skirmishes or even in team fights. During team fights when you focus Yi and he pops that W he literally takes no damage due to the free damage reduction stacked on top of the tank items he has already built, allowing for the enemy team to be convoluted into thinking we need to focus Yi (a tank) because he deals lots of damage. But meanwhile you forget about everyone else and suddenly Yi gets refreshes and continues his onslaught. Yes this is supposed to be his one and only defensive skill so he can survive during teamfights, but if the items are already doing that for you in the long run. Yi using meditate just makes it feel like you're wasting time in order to open up for another Q after the enemy has realized what a big mistake it was to focus you despite it seemingly being the smartest option. Seems like it doesn't create opportunities for the opponents.
I'm not sure if this is the best call cause any other change in terms of his damage output will probably significantly affect his jungle clear. Meaning touching Q almost seems likes it's off limits to diverge power away from. Maybe another option is lower the DPS that E offers and put more AD ratio on Q. It will be a nice shift in power. Making it really rewarding for Yi players who want to build atk speed and AD, in-order to get more potential output from Q. Anyways those are my theoretical proposals after watching a lot of gameplay of Yi on Cowsep's stream.
