How does Normal's MMR work?

I had this game were I had a platinum V Jayce feed. People have bad games every now and again. However, I found it weird why I was matched with him. I am just barely level 29 and don't find it fair to be matched against skilled players. This plat V dude was good, but the other singed was a lot better and also plat V. I find it very weird how I get placed with these players and some do worse than me. How is it possible? http://imgur.com/a/FdNYE

ppl play norms for fun. if it was draft it mightve just been a warmup game for jayce. if it was blind he mightve first timed him. maybe hes learning jayce. normal mmr works similar to ranked but has a higher standard deviation in ranks because ranks arent directly factored in to normal mmr (imo).

plus, singed lanes are really really weird. low playrate champs like singed make the lanes slightly more unpredictable.
