have a mute option if u get verbally abused as usual. but for the people who actually want to tryhard and help eachother out , this helps against premades SO much.

2 things i want from you as a company would be to give us the option to see whos premade and who isnt and a voice chat option for high elo.

this would even out the playing field for everyone.

voice chat shouldve been implemented 4+ years ago

nah before would just be toxic and useless. now we need it vs premades to work together. this will make games so much more fun and interactive. even when people are losing they have someone to talk to. people might even get a laugh out of it.

lolololololololol literally every team esport before this had voice (biggest one that comes to mind is counterstrike).

toxicity isn't nearly as dangerous as riot wants to make you believe. being coddled and sheltered doesnt help anyone. like you said, if you really can't handle what someone's saying to you, there's a mute button.

additionally, it's not as if the league community became progressively less toxic over the years; rather, they've become progressively MORE toxic. i've been here for 6 years. i should know. nobody used to give a fuck and the game was pretty fun. now everyone tries to jack off to the thought of them being eligible to be a pro player "GAH IF ONLY THESE SHITTERS WEREN'T HOLDING ME BACK", and riot's overspending on hype trailers only exacerbates that problem.

voice chat in season 2 would've been actually heaven...

s5 woudl have been heaven x2 tbh. if we worked together in the tank meta, theres nothign teams could do vs a good voice chat team.

how long have you been around m8

PlasmaRaven1 votes

end of s2. but s5 was the best season imo. had the most fun and great learning experience

Toastey1 votes

you missed the best season

open circuit competitive scene, no hard meta-lock, elo brackets instead of lp tiers...everything was the best in s2. barring the bad visuals, i wish i could go back every day

doesnt matter since i played like 400 bot games and 100 normals before i started ranked. i started it s3 and got clamped in s1 . was told im garbage by friends and the first week of s4 i hit plat then diamond 2 weeks later. elegiggle clamping fucked me over so hard.

2 points. First, it might just be that the old client can't handle a voice chat. With the new client almost here, it's possible that a voice chat system will be implemented.

But i doubt Riot would bother spending the time, and for good reason. There is already skype, teamspeak, and curse voice that provide voice chat services. Why would Riot waste time and resources investing in something that already exists? The population that uses voice chat is already using it; so the only thing Riot would be doing is giving voices (assuming everyone even has a mic, which probably isn't true) to people who already aren't interested in communicated with their team (ie, they would likely just mute teammates).

The problem with an ingame voice chat system can be seen in TF2 or counterstrike; you get people that mic spam, etc and if your solution is to "just mute them" then we are right back to the question of why did Riot make this in the first place.

Riot would be much better off endorsing and promoting a preexisting voice chat system the reinventing a wheel that isn't going to help a lot of people.

people who mic spam aren't the majority. you can't just give every random in every soloQ game your contact information for a voice service they might not even use. in-game voice chat is a staple of any team-based game, and league really has no excuse to not have it.

masterdragon4811 votes

Maybe its a staple part of a game that you paid for; but I can't validate (and I'm assuming Riot can't either) creating a system that already exists for a game (regardless how much money they make) that is free to play. They have better things to do with their time than make something that already exists. Also, its worth pointing out that that just because something is a staple, that doesn't make it the best or healthiest idea.

Take curse voice for example: I don't have to give any personal information and I could create an environment where I can talk to all my teammates. Once I hang up, I will never hear from them again because they don't have a way to contact me anymore.

There is no reason to force the chat system on anyone, and that is what this would be doing. The way I see it, there are only 3 possible outcomes from Riot implementing a chat system:

  1. Not enough players have mics, so they can't actively communicate, drastically decreasing the effectiveness (aka not really enough of a game changing experience to make the process worth it).
  2. Players are unwilling (or uncomfortable, or unable) to talk to one another and simply get in the habit of muting all teammates (a common practice even now, without voice chat).
  3. Or neither one of these is a problem, which likely means the players have no problem with, and likely already, use an existing voice chat system.

If you want to talk about majorities, how can you say for sure that the majority of people aren't already using chat systems? Or more importantly, can you actually say that the majority of people that would use a chat system aren't already using a one?

So in addition to this being a questionable decision concerning who exactly it's going to affect and how its going to improve the game, we need to talk about how Riot will now be held responsible for player to player interactions on said voice chat. They are already responsible for policing and managing the things we type to eachother; how exactly would Riot enforce the summoners code in their new chat system? I don't think they can; which funnels right back into everyone getting muted and Riot simply wasting their time. And all of these problems for them creating something that we already have access to.

Toastey1 votes

the point isn't that they're already using a voice service

the point is having a service integrated into the game so that compatibility isn't an issue (eg someone only uses skype and lands with a premade who only uses discord).

dota 2 is a free game with voice chat. almost every team game that has any significance has push-to-talk. i mean even TF2 has push-to-talk. LOL if you're so much of an eager victim that you're gonna say "well maybe voicechat isn't the best idea even if it's been proven throughout video gaming history", then there's a mute button for you

masterdragon4811 votes

First prove that they aren't already using a voice system. Then prove that if Riot implemented the system, that people would use it. If you can't do both, it isn't worth Riot making it because there is no clear gains they will get from it.

If people are just going to use the mute button for whatever reason, thank you for proving my point; it becomes completely useless and not worth making in the first place.
