Why can't we vote out a toxic player at the draft screen?

This has probably been brought up before, but I would like some discussion about it.

We've all had it happen. You have that one guy who either instalocks a champion out of position, or is just plain toxic before the game even starts.

The only resolution is for someone to dodge and wait out the timer, while the toxic player suffers no consequences and continues to the next draft mode where he can do it again until he finally gets into a game. The person who is disruptive to the process suffers zero penalties.

There should be an option where if the four other players unanimously agree to vote this player out, he is placed into a 5 minute dodge queue. It won't escalate to the 15 minute mark nor does it count towards his dodges for that day. If the toxic player is part of a duo queue, his partner is not able to vote in his favor. Additionally, the amount of times your voted out of a queue is tracked like any other infraction and can trigger Riot to issue punishments towards your account for habitual offenders.

I understand the main concerns would be people exploiting this process, but there must be a way to create a system where this is possible with limited abuse potential. I just hate how the toxic players who refuse to abide by draft order or are just plain toxic are either forcing you into playing a 45 minute game with them until they're eligible to be reported, or YOU have to dodge and suffer a timer for their bad behavior.

Thoughts? Ideas? Discuss!

“I think there should be a vote to kick available in pre-game.”

Sadly, something like this would be subject to far too much abuse and presents too many problems.

  • People could vote-kick players who refused to play a certain role or champion.
  • People could vote-kick players who did not agree to a pre-arranged tactic.
  • People could look up a player’s ranking, match history or experience with a champion and use that to decide whether or not that person was “worthy” of playing with them.
  • Time spent on a vote detracts from an already short amount of time to build a team.
  • Discussion of the vote, either before or after, would lead to bad feelings and toxicity.

Credit to Matthias9119: Heroes of Newerth had a vote-kick system, but removed it due to abuse.

I am all for something like this and have posted MANY threads on how to "weed out" the toxic players. So let me play Devils Advocate on this one.

possible issue #1:

What if the last person that needs to pick needs to take ADC, but picks something like ....Teemo. where "technically" his PRIMARY role according to the Champion page within LoL says he is a marksman. As a teemo player myself, I can guarantee that all of the other 4 people are going to say, "no...GOD no...Guys, vote him out now!!". when he actually didn't do anything wrong.

But yes, there should be ways for people to vote out based upon chat window stuff. like someone swearing a butt load and calling everyone noobs. or claiming if he/she doesn't get mid they will feed. But just having a unanimous vote from 4 others wouldn't solve everything.

I like where your head is at though! +1

I'm all for a report system for champion select, but vote kicking has too much abuse potential.

Got outpicked in champion select? Vote kick the last pick. Don't want a Varus ADC? Kicked. You're a four man queue and the fifth guy won't play support? Kicked.

It's pretty obvious by now that Riot would rather side with the one toxic/troll/"non-meta" player and give him all the chances in the world to do it again and again. This has been a problem for years, and yet this problem is still here.

This would be hell for non-meta champ mains...

kicking in ranked is a no no

"You have that one guy who either instalocks a champion out of position"

You just said why. How do you know the guy who just locked in a nonmeta pick can totally rock it and has like a 70%+ winrate with it over a decent amount of games?

Also RIP any champion considered nonviable in ranked/draft. Maybe that guy who just locked in Urgot completely crushes everyone.

The system would be abused to kick out players for making unconventional picks or taking summoner's spells that the team doesn't like

"OMG noob support won't take exhaust, plz kick"

Lots of people are saying well what about if I want to play X champ in X role. Sorry guys, but if 4 other people don´t want you to play teemo adc, or teemo jungle, or teemo in the first place - maybe you shouldn´t play teemo?

Really just needs an option to report people in team select. Think about this:

  • Toxic player in team select gets reported by all four teammates
  • One dodges
  • Toxic player is placed back into team select and gets reported again by all four teammates
  • One dodges
  • Repeat as many times as it takes to get into a game

In the span of 5 minutes, this player will have amassed more reports than they might have otherwise in 5 games. The rotten apples would be weeded out incredibly quickly with a system like this, orders of magnitude faster than the current system. At the least, if players wished to continue to be toxic, they would have to not do so in team select and wait for the game to start to run their mouths.

"draft order" you realize riot randomized first pick in ranked right? Yeah. I've been last pick with my first pick 500 MMR UNDER ME

Sometimes people instalock because their chat service is down and won't come back up. It's not always a sign of toxic behavior. I don't know what's different about arguing over positions, most of the time people go where they want and leave the person trying to call positions with what's left.
