Does Ahri truly suck at farming CS?

IncredibleXX··2 votes·4,770 views

Hi there. I know this will sound odd coming from a Ahri main player, but I honestly have to ask: is Ahri just plain terrible at farming CS? While I know how to get last hits on minions, I just can't seem to catch up to my opponent's CS, no matter who I go up against. =/ I know that Ahri doesn't have adequate AD for her basic attacks, but I may just simply suck at farming in general lol! I don't know! There's people who have told me that Ahri is great at farming, and then there's people who have told me that where she's damage dependent that she won't be the best at farming. Can someone maybe give me some advice, tips and/or opinions on this mattter, please? Thanks very much in advance!

It's just something you'll have to work at. Ahri's waveclear is quite strong mid to late game so I imagine it's only the early game where you are struggling, and it'll just take some experience and a lot of failure before you can consistently last hit with your weak auto attack :p. But you can do it!

You could do a custom game with 0 other players and just work on last hitting with only your auto.

You could also try last hitting with champions who's ad is even worse, or last hitting is even more of a struggle :p. ie Vladimir Lissandra Ryze Anivia Annie Veigar auto attacks only!!

I just can't believe that I'm not a good LOL player after playing for 3 years. =/ I guess I don't have talent for League. I don't know. I was trying out a normal match and I could only get about 60 CS in 10 minutes. I was concentrating very hard on farming and last hitting on minions. I just don't think it's possible with a champ like Ahri, in my opinion. I love Ahri, though. She's a really, really good champ. I just can't do consistently well in my matches with her. :( It's like I only get lucky when it appears I'm doing well.

It's absolutely possible, don't think like that! You may have been playing league for a long time, but how long have you been focusing on playing Ahri?

I main Vlad and have gotten decent at farming with him but I still screw up the early game ALL THE TIME. It's frustrating and sometimes embarrassing, but it happens to everyone.

Keep practicing and you'll get there in time.

Turns out it wasn't that long I've been playing for. =/ It was harshly pointed out to me that I've only been playing for 384 hours over a span of 3 years. I've been practicing with Ahri for the last 4 months I think. Before Ahri I was using Lulu.

IF it makes this better, I've been playing for almost eight years, but repeatedly had huge breaks so I'm still basically a scroob.[slayer-jinx-catface]

oooh another good one how could I forget that - probably because no, no I do not swain :p.

Hey I main Ahri too, and yeah it's a hard champion to cs with, no ad, no autoattack resets, can hardly spam abilities early due to high mana costs. However that's not a reason to not try to cs well ;)

IncredibleXX1 votes

I get what you're saying, but I still can't seem to catch up to my other's CS. I don't know why.

Ionian2 votes

Usually your opponent will spend the first levels pushing the wave because Ahri can't push back and farms terribly under turret. Also Ahri tends to roam a lot, which also means csing less. It's a normal thing. What I mean is don't miss the free cs.

IncredibleXX1 votes

I don't roam often so that doesn't apply to me, in my opinion.

I don't know what you're doing because i never been in a game to see it, but one thing i can tell you is that pre 6 never use your q for farming. Use the q to poke, shove the lane out, or stack your passive. Don't try to score cs with q unless you can't auto attack the cs in time. There is also a annoying ass bug on her q (it felt like it been there since season 3 or 4) where if you try to auto attack the moment your q turns around it gets cancelled.

Other than that just practice.

Rashlasher2 votes

Wait...Ahri bad at CS?

Am I messing up my gamer terms? CS refers to dat minion killing farming stuff no?

Ahri bad at CS???

So, I'm the only one Q'ing in a line, knocking off a third to a half of all the minions hit HP (Progressively more as game goes on), and 2-3 max sweeps gets me the whole wave, quick? This isn't impossible for an Ahri newbie, either. I think I may be oversimplifying what you're asking. You just get to the front of minion line, Q so the orb goes like:

O---> minion -->O minion ---> O minion OK I'll stop, failed type-animation.

And to get the ones that line up sideways, like those clusters of three, the orb follows you like a boomerang, so you move her accordingly.

I think I'm oversimplifying your question. Must be messing something up, because it's just Q, sweep, Q, sweep, 5 seconds = make it rain gold.

Ahri is usually viewed as one of the best farming mid laners in the game, or at least was back when her competition were more assassins like fizz (who is notoriously bad at CS) she might not be as good as say anivia nowadays but I still think her only rival for safe easy laning is zed.

You say you're an ahri main so I assume you try to roam from mid a lot? That might be why you're behind in CS, you're busy making pressure on the map

IncredibleXX1 votes

No I don't usually roam, sorry. I stay in mid most of the time UNLESS my team needs assistance elsewhere. That's not often. When I say that I main Ahri, I mean that I just happen to play her a lot more than other champs. Maybe I simply suck at farming! lol! :p I have no sweet clue.

Veraska1 votes

Okay thanks to a magical website called op.gg I got a look at what's going on, you just need to practice your last hitting early on and try to farm more in general, you ussually wanna have 80-100 cs by the 1st 10 Minutes of the game for a reference on good CS

Also what's ussually your starting item? And 1st like major item (morellonomicon, zhonyas etc.)

Bergk1 votes

I looked at your match history, and your CS definitely needs work. I'd recommend going into a custom game all by yourself, and practice CS-ing. Stop at the 10 minute mark and then keep practicing until you can get 70-100CS by 10. There's no use in practicing past 10 minutes in game because once you get items and levels, wave clearing is easy. It is the first ten minutes that really matter most.

IncredibleXX2 votes

Sighs. I figured as much. =/ I truly do suck at CS'ing. That's why I usually love playing support. At least then I don't have to farm CS. I honesty don't think I'm a very good LOL player. If I happen to get kills or do well, it's only because of luck. :( I can't seem to do consistently well in my matches.

Bergk1 votes

Just practice. A little practice goes a long way.

IncredibleXX1 votes

I just tried doing a team builder match with Ahri. I solely concentrated on CS'ing, doing great on last hits, but your idea of getting at least 70-100 CS by 10 minutes was absolutely not possible for me. The most I got at the 10 minute mark was about 60, I think. And at the end of the match I only had 105 CS. =/

Bergk2 votes

that's why I said practice in custom games, all by yourself. Until you can reliably get 70-100 cs by 10 minutes.

IncredibleXX1 votes

At that moment, I was already in champ select so I couldn't do a custom match. I don't think it's possible to get that much CS with Ahri in 10 minutes.

Bergk1 votes

It is VERY possible. Before minions began spawning sooner, by 10 minutes 114 minions have come to the lane. That mean 70 cs by 10 minutes is only 61%.... which is easy.

IncredibleXX1 votes

Then I must be doing something wrong. Guess I'm naturally untalented at League, after all, if I can't even get that many CS in 10 minutes. =/ I love Ahri, though. She's a really, really good champ. I just can't do consistently well in my matches with her. :( It's like I only get lucky when it appears I'm doing well.

Bergk1 votes

lol! That's why I'm telling you to PRACTICE!!!!!!!!! hahaha geez. I'm not saying you suck, but no one gets good at anything without practice.

IncredibleXX1 votes

Maybe you didn't see my other comments, but I've been playing for 3 whole years and still am not good at League. That's what I've been trying to say here. If I can't even get 70 CS in 10 minutes with 3 years experience, then I must actually suck.

Bergk1 votes

You've only spent about 384 hours playing League of Legends.... I've spent 2035 hours on League of Legends, and I have trouble getting 90cs by ten minutes.

IncredibleXX1 votes

Over a span of 3 years. Even so, that's not enough practice? And how the hell are you even seeing the total number of hours played? O_o

IncredibleXX1 votes

Guess League is something people have to have natural talent for. =/ Which I obviously lack.

no! You have to practice CS if you want to be good at it. Before he retired, Dyrus spent 1 hour EVERYDAY practicing last hitting BEFORE he'd queue for solo queue. Just as a warm up.

IncredibleXX1 votes

Who's Dyrus? Never heard of him before.

Bergk1 votes

a professional top laner. He's been playing league of legends since closed beta. He was Team Solo Mid's top laner from 2012 until now; he just retired. But my point is, he is a professional player who's been playing since closed beta. He's Challenger in solo queue, yet he still PRACTICED last hitting EVERYDAY for 1 hour.

You don't see sports players in real life being like "I've been playing football for 20 years, I don't need to practice. I'll just show up to the games." No matter what game you're playing, you need to practice if you want to get better. Sure you can play it just for fun, that's why it was made. But if you want to improve, you have to practice.

IncredibleXX1 votes

Hmmm I guess so. I feel so pathetic compared to most players.

Most players probably get around what you do, but really I think Ahri takes just a bit of skill to get used to with farming as a lot of other AP mages have better means for farming (LeBlannc's high AA damage, Lux popping her passive, Ziggs with his passive, etc) so she's more reliant on getting those last hits.

I don't claim to be the best Ahri as I'm sure there's more I can learn, but when it comes to farming, the best advice I can give is don't worry about it. Honesty, just don't even look at the score, make a little game out of it "watch the coins" or something. Use your Orb of Deception to get some good damage on the wave, have your minions autoattack once or twice and they should be low enough for you to get them.

As for Luden's, honestly Lichbane might be a better option, at least coming from me. I've always found Luden's great at doing waveclear on mages that might need it or just extra power for teamfights. With Lichbane, you can focus more on one target over the entire picture.

Yo. At this point I may be "that guy" who fills up your reply box, but I figure that I may as well say this: You suck. But guess what, everyone sucks. Except Faker, who is good. You're in a game with millions of other people, some of which don't want to learn how to play properly and don't even know the insane stuff you can do with good CS.

Also, I noticed that you mentioned that all those hours of practice aren't enough. Chances are you weren't practicing, you were playing the game. Practice implies dedicating a specific amount of time to just improving your mechanical skill, which doesn't even approach the subject of game knowledge. You've been playing for three or so years, but I'm guessing you never practiced or you would be doing better.

In my opinion no one is naturally gifted in this game. Different people dedicate different amounts of time and may excel in different roles or lanes, but no one just comes in and gets offered a position in the LCS before they get their account to level five. If you really want to get better then whining about your lack of skill will not help you in the slightest. You just have to practice, look up some videos for tips and useful game knowledge, and you'll progress naturally. You have to actually try and get better instead of talking about how everyone else won the genetic lottery at clicking a mouse, moving their eyes around a screen and pressing a few buttons on a keyboard.

Tl;DR You need to put in the effort to get better rather than putting yourself down and whining about how other people are just naturally better than you(which is false unless you have some actual physical hindrance or disability relating to the motor functions of your hands).

IncredibleXX1 votes

And if those normal matches that I've been doing for the last 3 years aren't practice, then what are they? Just nothing? Why do you think that doing custom matches by myself will be any better than the actual matches themselves?

Vincent Lucius1 votes

Custom matches allow you to focus on the task at hand without worrying about the other laner and the rest of the map. You get to learn the timing to last hit with or without your masteries without having to think about trading, ganks, roaming, etc. It's like a hyperbolic time chamber in that you get more out of your practice despite having spent roughly the same amount of time practicing.

It's very possible just watch a high elo player play ahri on youtube and copy what they do. I used to get 100 cs a game when I was level 15 then I watched a high elo Annie player on youtube (only 1 video) and easily have that by 12 minutes.

Catastrop1 votes

In the early game when she can't afford to spam her spells for wave clear, yes. However, that's just more an issue of last hitting which is easily solved by going into a custom game and getting at least 70 cs by 10 minutes. Mid and Late game is easy, once you've got Morello and Luden's, farming should be a breeze.

IncredibleXX1 votes

Just tried out a normal match with Ahri. Could only get 60 CS by 10 minutes. :( And I was REALLY trying my best to concentrate solely on farming for the first 10 minutes, too. And at the end of the match I only had 105 CS. =/

I do decently well with her, my average being 157 (not sure if that's great or not, I got my stats from op.gg) and I used to have trouble cs'ing myself to the point I actually had some AD marks to help with it (made a gold player's jaw drop, lol. I ran about even until I got a kill on him when he tried to go after my team).

Anyway, I get an average 130-ish by 20 minutes now assuming no ganks and no roaming. If I roam, I tend to run slightly less, maybe 110 or so? A trick my friend did for me was me and her made a custom match and had a little competition to see who could get more by 10m without any runes or masteries (she beat me by two, sadface). It helps a lot more than you think and every game I'm constantly trying to do better.

IncredibleXX1 votes

It's definitely more than me, if that makes you feel any better. I don't roam unless my team is in dire need of help. So I spend most of my time in mid lane during my matches. I guess I'm gonna have to take everyone's suggestion and do some custom matches, as tedious as that sounds. =/ I'm always trying to do better in my matches, but it doesn't get me far. I guess when it appears I'm doing well, it's really just me being lucky with no skill.

Ahri, who typicaly buys item 3285 shouldn't have any problem with farming cs

IncredibleXX1 votes

I'm mostly talking about within the first 10 minutes now. Everyone's been telling me the first 10 minutes of a match is what matters most. So if that's the case, I don't see it being possible to get item 3285 that fast. At least, it was never the first item I got.

IncredibleXX1 votes

I think I'm gonna stop using this for now. I get the picture. "practice, practice, practice" Have a nice day, guys. Thanks for the help.

I took a quick peek at your last two Ahri games, and I'd like to recommend taking physical damage from your marks. Magic pen is great, but if you're having trouble last-hitting, just take physical damage. The gold from more successful cs is worth waaaay more than the magic pen. If you're still having trouble, take phys dmg quints too.

If I were to make an Ahri page, it would probably look something like: 9 AD marks 8-9 armor seals, 1 mana regen seal (because I'm crazy I guess. health per level can work too, but AD is pretty heavy in the current meta.) 9 MR glyphs 3 AP quints (can be swapped for AD quints.)

Your masteries look alright; I'd maybe swap the 2% movement speed for 5 damage dealt to minions and monsters. It can really make a difference.

For your recent Lulu games I'd recommend armor marks, because you're in a lane against what will likely turn out to be the hardest hitting enemy. It doesn't say you filled out a mastery page for those at all. Make sure to make one! :)

Hello fellow Ahri main! No, Ahri is excellent at csing, she has amazing wave clear so I don't know where this came from. But I do sort of understand what you mean. Ahri's problem isn't her wave clear, its her auto attack animation. Its very wonky, it has a long wind up, and can be easily canceled. I struggled with csing from a long time until I understood this. Just practice more with last hitting and take into consideration her AA animation and you should be fine.

NemeBro1 votes

No harder than most other AP mid laners. Her AA animation isn't too bad.
