A valid way to handle early game AFKs and help players from losing more LP
So there has been a lot of discussion in regards to AFKs and the negative impact to overall gameplay experience. I propose a system that can handle an AFK from the start of the game. (TL:DR at bottom but looking at system rules recommended)
Scenarios Champ select goes through as usual and players start to load in and get into the game. Players get to their lanes and/or jungle area but wait? A player has yet to connect/hasnt moved/bought anything yet. Well hope he connects. 20 mins go by and he has not connected, game is a stomp and the losing team loses LP for no reason, winning team gets a stomp. Not fun for either side really and a real waste of time and a lot of salt and toxicity is generated from the losing team.
OR
Pretty much the same scenario except all players connect but a few minutes into the game, disconnects either from leaving purposefully or connection issues with riot servers/person internet issues.
SOLUTION A system that does an activity/connectivity check from the beginning of the game until about 5 mins into the game. If the check is met, the game can be left and all players (except the afker) would have no penalty (the afker having a 30 game ban (EDIT: 30 minutes not games - woops) much like a champ select dodge)
System Rules
-
If a death occurs that either team secures, while all players present, the system ceases to continue and the game goes on until a /ff is made at 20 or nexus is destroyed. This is to prevent abuse of early aggression that may have gone wrong for either side and try to use the system as a free restart.
-
If a player fails to connect (or move) from the very beginning, and a kill is secured from the handicapped team, the system may still continue to work and can still cancel the game since it is a 5v4 case
-
System check goes as follows: If a player is inactive/disconnected for three mins during the 5 min grace period the check may work EX) If a player disconnects at 4:55, the system will still work since it is within the grace period and cancel the game at 7:55, so long as all other system rules are followed
-
Once the system check goes through and allows the game to be cancelled, all players (but the AFK) may leave penalty free, the AFK gets a 30 min match ban
Counter point I understand that this system will not solve ALL AFK issues, but will reduce pointless losses where a player is missing at the very beginning of the game. I find it to be a better system than what we currently have since if a player is having connection issues, they arent losing LP and being banned by leaver buster for something out of their control. Instead they get a buffer ban that allows them to fix the internet issue or gives them an idea that "Maybe I shouldnt play ranked today since my internet is acting up" or that situation where the player has an actual emergency and needs to leave in the first few mins of the game.
TL:DR: A system that checks the disconnection/inactivity time of a player that after a set time cancels the game so long as no deaths have occured, allowing all players to leave a match penalty free (except the AFK who will get a 30 min buffer ban)
This is still all up for debate but I do not see this being abuse-able and can reduce some of the ranked stress that early AFKs can bring to the game.
