Shaco!!!

I love playing shaco, and typically i do very well during lane phase, as its easy to do well as shaco, just like evelynn lol. But im not sure on what my role is late game. Ive heard and seen a bunch of people say im just ment to splitpush because im not useful in teamfights, and ive also heard that im ment to just go in onto the adc. If they have a good peel team with pinks, i cant exactly get to the adc before getting exploded, and usually if i splitpush i find my team dying in the 4v5 and my split push not doing a whole lot, so what exactly am i ment to be doing, and what in different situations am i suppose to do.
