How many rune pages do I need?

I'm finally getting to that point where I have a good variety of runes (between 6-8) and I'm wondering what's a good amount of rune pages to have that would cover a good variety of champions/matchups.

You can easily get away with 2. However, I would recommend 4: 1 AP, 1 AD, 1 for AS, and one for a support (Health regen). Other than that if there is one champion who you really like who needs special runes then go for it, but these four should be more than enough for most champions in the game.

6-8 are good.

I regularly use 5-6 different pages, i have 18 of them but about 10 of them are super specialized things like karthus jungle or something. i say get 6 pages and you are set

Depends on how large your champ pool and normal champs you play. For me, I have a wide variety with little of the same style champs. Which means i need an ap page, ad, fullad, adpen, as, ascooldown, ad health tank, ap health tank, and a yasuo page (cuz he needs his own page). Still need more pages for other champs tho. Its good to have specific rune pages for specific champs because it feels a lot smoother in the early goings.

Honestly like three. Especially now with new draft, you've only gotta make rune pages for two positions. Even if you pick the two most diverse positions (support and JG) you can get away with a generic armor/mr/attackspeed page for both positions.

While it is nice to have a load of pages, it's not necessary, especially nowadays.

Depends on what you're playing; if you really want to get deep into it, you can get all 20, but for most people, like, 5 is plenty; you can always adapt them to whatever champions you're playing at any given time. Especially now that you only really have to play two roles, you can get away with fewer

My pages:

  • Mage
  • ADC
  • Support Mage
  • Tank Support
  • AD fighter/bruiser
  • AP Tank
  • Devourer Jungler
  • AP carry jungler
  • Experimental page

Most mages use more or less the same page; same thing with ADCs. Most supports generally fall into two categories, otherwise I can substitute with another page. Jungle has a lot of diversity, so I have a page for each type of champion I play. The experimental page was gifted by a friend with the explicit requirement that I only use it to test out cheesy builds.

Like I said before though, with the new champ select, you only need pages for the 2 roles you're playing, and also what champions you're playing. I don't really play too many AP carry junglers, but I have the space for it, so I made a page. I could still play the game with 2 pages, but I just like having more options.

These guys have you covered. Just enough pages for your essentials, then whatever specialized pages you want to add.
