Deathfire Touch Not Registering On-hit Effect Abilities/Spells

It states that "your damaging abilities" will proc the keystone effect, but I just played a game as Ezreal and his q wouldn't proc the effect. I'm just assuming it's cause the game is programmed so that the q is considered an on hit effect attack (as to proc sheen damage and stuff) but it's not giving the burn over 4 seconds which is kinda eh cause his q is an ability and it's a skillshot as well. The extra reward from a skillshot ability such as Ezreal's q landing is kinda important.

On-Hit effects don't count as spells. That's why they don't trigger spellvamp, among other things.

That's intended behaviour.

Deathfire Touch is a spell effect which are typically not be applied by abilities which apply on-hit effects.

Ezreal's Q is a basic attack that can't crit. just think of it like that.

i feel like every ability that provides an on hit it also an ability. providing on hit is just the product of the ability. not the slot that hits E. or whatever it is. its an ability that grants on hit. it should count as one. teemo's e should proc rylais.

Ezreal's Q is not an ability. It is a basic attack.

With very few exceptions, if something applies on-hit effects, it is not an ability and is a basic attack. Also with very few exceptions, something is an ability if it does not apply on-hit effects and is itself not an on-hit effect.
