No offense but In my opinion the problem is that many people are unable to realize how much they are worth. In every season I played I have always been perfectly able to determine my best possible placement in the ladder.
In S4, after playing some games, I realized that I could not reach anything better than silver and in fact I have constantly stayed between silver 1 and 3 and I ended up in silver 3. In S5 I realized that I was worthy an high-gold low-plat placement and I ended up in low platinum. Same goes for this season where I still think that I deserve to be in low-plat and in fact I'm in low-plat. And I'm talking about my main account and the smurf that ironically is always in the same exact ELO.
If for some reason I manage to temporarily get a placement better than my predictions, I can immediately admit that I've had luck so I have to expect to drop pretty soon. No drama no cry. You need humility and maturity to understand your real skill level but most of players, especially the ones in low ELO, are not realistic. They think that they're worth 10 but in reality they're worth 1. The gap between their expectations and their actual skill is nonsensical here's why they flame, use boosting services, get banned and create expressions like "ELO hell".
I remember all my placements with the smurf with unranked and low bronze players playing Master Yi ADC, Katarina top, Ashe jungler etc. I have devastatingly won all games as a Shen support with a real support build carrying all games ending with scores like 18/0 and quadra/penta kills.
How do I know that I reached the ELO that I deserve? As a top laner (my secondary role) when I start to need some ganks in order to win the lane because I can no longer win the lane 100% alone. As a jungler (primary role) when ganking becomes really hard, when I start to change my build from damage to tankiness and I don't mind to last hit enemies just because I can't see others on the map and I expect everything to happend. More in general when I start to lose games for MY OWN mistakes in addition to mistakes of my team.
In conclusion if you are in bronze and you think that you belong to gold but you can't get out of bronze, probably you belong to bronze.
