Basically anyone with high base stats (naturally durable, strong early game)

The best example is probably Renekton, but several champions can do the job.

If the Riven knows how to animation cancel (soon to be everyone who plays Riven) You can't. A Riven with half a brain can easily face-roll even her "hard counters." All she has to do is play smart, wait for ganks, get a slight advantage.

Otherwise pick Pantheon and spam your Q after you bait her shield.

A good Gnar (better than or equal skill as the Riven) can just make her cry. xD I'm pretty new to Gnar, and I absolutely annihilated a Riven in lane, and forced her to constantly back or killed her. Just kite her around while in mini form, and proc your W as much as possible, then go all in when you go mega, throw her into a wall, stun her again with your W, and Q + E combo. Blamo, one dead or backing Riven. ^^

Save your E for when she charges you, jump out of range of her stun, and then go back in.

A skilled has all the tools needed to make lane phase a living hell for Riven.

An unskilled one is just going to get mowed down like anyone else, so you're better off finding something with simpler mechanics that will at least not die to her.

would actually be a reasonable choice because Riven's animation cancelling doesn't cause her to attack faster than her attack speed.

Renekton, Jax, and Darius are all even skill match ups for Riven and are the most fun.

champions with a lot of CC and naturally tanky champions are pretty good against her in straight up fights (Ex: renekton, irelia, garen, leona, braum)

you can outplay her with a champion like zed or syndra or ahri

you can disengage her with a champion like nami or janna

really there's lots of options. just dont pick an immobile poke mage or a squishy melee and expect to win very easily.

Basically anyone who can stop her stun is useful, like Garen (with silence) and Olaf (with his Ult). For straight up fighting Jax, Renekton and Darius are your next best bets really. Hope this helps anyone struggling, use this if you need more info

Riven does have a few Counters most are already mentioned, but the real problem people seem to have with Riven is how much of a monster she becomes in the late game, if the game goes long enough there is almost no stopping her.
