I was wondering what champions can counter Riven and how because Riven has tons of mobility, a shield, damage and an executor.

You gotta be a fast ranged champ though, cause Riven can close in quick

Very few ranged actually. They need to be able to hop away or have some escape in their kit. She can easily hop three quarters or a screen length and sheild up before just mass dps'ing.

Basically anyone with high base stats (naturally durable, strong early game)

The best example is probably Renekton, but several champions can do the job.

Garen does not work against Riven, Riven is pretty much the Garen that Riot wanted all along, a high damage, resourceless fighter that isn't squishy, since they nerfed Garen's damage to hell and buffed the f*ck out of his defenses, Garen is really only viable as a tank now, and Riven has NO problem killing tanks late game. Your Q doesn't break you free from Riven's stun or knockup, your W doesn't last as long as Riven's combo, and Riven's ultimate, on top of the damage and range boost, includes an execute that, while doesn't look nearly as awesome as Garen's, is superior to his in every metric (damage, range, AOE for multi target, stat scaling, cooldown). Also, unlike Riven, who has 3 or 4 gapclosers, an AOE stun, attack range steroid, and a ranged execute, Garen gets kited to uselessness late game. It doesn't matter how tanky you are or how much damage you do, even if you are fed no one is really scared of you because they will just self-peel and kite you to death for 30 seconds straight while you keep running towards them looking like an idiot. Meanwhile, a fed Riven creates more fear than Nocturne's E.

Resourceless champs that were nerfed a while back Yasuo Riven have become a problem once again because of the mana regen nerfs, you can't go toe to toe with them early game, and now you can't poke them to death early game or else you will run out of mana.

No one was bitching about manaless champs in season 4, but Riot is clear that these mana regen nerfs are here to stay.

What are you babbling on about, Garen is a hard counter to Riven to the point that it's as if Garen's kit was made to shut down Riven's. It's near impossible to lose that matchup even if you try.

If the Riven knows how to animation cancel (soon to be everyone who plays Riven) You can't. A Riven with half a brain can easily face-roll even her "hard counters." All she has to do is play smart, wait for ganks, get a slight advantage.

Otherwise pick Pantheon and spam your Q after you bait her shield.

Renekton, Jax, and Darius are all even skill match ups for Riven and are the most fun.

champions with a lot of CC and naturally tanky champions are pretty good against her in straight up fights (Ex: renekton, irelia, garen, leona, braum)

you can outplay her with a champion like zed or syndra or ahri

you can disengage her with a champion like nami or janna

really there's lots of options. just dont pick an immobile poke mage or a squishy melee and expect to win very easily.

Basically anyone who can stop her stun is useful, like Garen (with silence) and Olaf (with his Ult). For straight up fighting Jax, Renekton and Darius are your next best bets really. Hope this helps anyone struggling, use this if you need more info

Riven does have a few Counters most are already mentioned, but the real problem people seem to have with Riven is how much of a monster she becomes in the late game, if the game goes long enough there is almost no stopping her.

A good Gnar (better than or equal skill as the Riven) can just make her cry. xD I'm pretty new to Gnar, and I absolutely annihilated a Riven in lane, and forced her to constantly back or killed her. Just kite her around while in mini form, and proc your W as much as possible, then go all in when you go mega, throw her into a wall, stun her again with your W, and Q + E combo. Blamo, one dead or backing Riven. ^^

Save your E for when she charges you, jump out of range of her stun, and then go back in.

A skilled Malzahar has all the tools needed to make lane phase a living hell for Riven.

An unskilled one is just going to get mowed down like anyone else, so you're better off finding something with simpler mechanics that will at least not die to her.

Malphite would actually be a reasonable choice because Riven's animation cancelling doesn't cause her to attack faster than her attack speed.

malphite sucks against riven, she can easily shield all your Q, and youll quickly run out of mana, while she keeps hopping non stop for free
