Topic = Blitzcrank: Let's be realistic

I posted this on S@20, but I felt like I should share it here to. It is an Idea I got after reading a question involving blitzcrank. I hope you like

About the steam for blitzcrank. What if Riot were to give him steam instead of mana, creating a whole new ability resource. Although it would seem op since you are probably already thinking "Steam would just regen over and he would never back unless to buy." Now, let's think about this. In my view of steam, I think of water as blitzcrank's resource. As we know, Steam vaporizes into the air, and if you're outside, you can't really get it back. So, if blitzcrank we're to have steam, he would use an ability, and lose some steam. The trick is, THE STEAM DOESN'T REGEN! Blitzcrank instead would have to rely on backing. back to your debate "Then he would back all the time making him a useless lane ally!" AGAIN, LET'S THINK If we were to give blitz a starting source of 700 steam, then he would be able to remain in lane for a decent amount of time, and each level increases his steam by 80 (2140/LV 18). His ability costs would be (Q-100 AL) (W-60/70/80/90/90) (E-0/20/30/40/40) (R-150 AL) Now, Blitzcrank (and any future steam user) would be able to buy special items that can refill steam. This can help blitzcrank be a different type of support without the need of mana, remaining in lane. The last thing to touch about him is the shield passive. It uses available mana to shield him when he is lower than 30% health. Now with steam i'd disagree with him using some of his steam to shield himself. Instead, The passive should shield him based on his MR and Armor

What do you think? Solid or is their a problem?

This is change for the sake of change. It may be thematically appropriate, but mechanically it doesn't add any depth to the champion, besides forcing them to recall more often. All champions with a resource besides mana have it for a mechanical reason. 'Steam' would have none.

Your argument stands valid, but if I may ask does steam necessarily not help Riot diverse into champion mechanics? I would assume that steam would give the game a larger viewpoint on strategy.

Also a question, what would you do to make mechanics match up?

Look at every resource: -Energy hinders spamming, but allows indefinite poke -Heat must be kept below 100, but buffs Rumble above 50 -Mana limits champions early game, but can be built around -Steam forces blitzcrank to recall more often, but..? There's no advantage to steam, and furthermore, there doesn't seem to be a reason he should have it over mana. Why should blitzcrank have to recall more often? Why should he only have a finite number of spell casts? How does that fit with blitzcrank's current design?

I see your argument, but how could it work

BUT IF HE GOES ON THE RIVER HE HAS INFINITE STEAM!!!

On top of that, steam would only make his passive useless unless they were to change it completely into something different.

I mentioned an armor/Mr ratio, or 45% of his steam

Oh, I was mobile, I didn't see that last bit.

Even that becomes a bit of a problem then. If he builds all armor & magic resist, his shield becomes a massive problem when it gets popped. At least there is some counter-play when he has a definitive amount of mana remaining.

That makes sense. I was just hoping that since this 2015 season is going to be so complex and unique with the patches and champions, I thought it would be nice to get a little more diversity within the game. I'd like to thank everyone for their opinions, and keep debating to keep the fields of justice pure of problems.

Steam as a resource could be cool, however Runeterra is a land filled with magic. Magic is not a rare thing at all, and Blitzcrank was built by one of Runeterra's greatest minds. I don't think it's unreasonable to have some form of magical dehumidifier to keep his water supply topped off.

Yes, and no. Blitz is an independent steam golem, but that doesn't mean he is filled with magic. He still needs to fuel like the rest of us, and if we know anything about robots, they require recharges (refueling). So it would makes sense for the creators to give him a large battery supply, but if he were to use abilities, it would drain his power immensely
