I have tanks who would really liek to be able to get some regen w/o having to rely on other stat combo i dont need.

For the most part there isn't any real difference between having a large mana pool to repeatedly cast abilities or having a lot of MP/5 to repeatedly cast abilities.

If mana was so low you could only QW before running OoM or if base MP/5 didn't exist: sure, big difference between the 2 stats. But ATM your mana pool will usually support 2 full QWER QWER rotations before running dry and base MP/5 is high enough to throw 1 Q out every minion wave/30 seconds indefinitely.

In which case: item 3110 item 3024 item 3025 are all solid options if you're running low on Mana.

Unlike MP/5, a few durable champions like SingedBlitzcrankRyze also scale specifically with mana and Muramana/Manamune/Seraph's Embrace/Archangel's Staff all benefit from mana instead of MP/5, where nothing I'm aware with scales with MP/5 specifically.

Generally this is correct. However having a high regen doesn't mean you have to base for mana where having a large mana pool means when you run out, you have to base. Then you've got champs like Anivia and cass who need both.

May be too good on tanky supports and some other classes you want to keep their skills in check so they don't spam them. For example, you'd have to make sure bruisers and juggernauts don't go overboard with it.

juggernauts and bruisers can deal damage though so item 3508 would already be their item over an armor/mp5 item.

Stacking mana shouldnt be the only option for armor.
